Higher cadmium and zinc accumulation in parsley (Petroselinum crispum) roots activates its antioxidants defense system
Biometals. 2023 Sep 13. doi: 10.1007/s10534-023-00529-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTParsley (Petroselinum crispum) is herb with many biological and medicinal benefits for humans. However, growth on zinc (Zn) and cadmium (Cd) contaminated sites might get severely affected due to over accumulation of heavy metals (HM) in different plant tissues. Antioxidants play a crucial role in minimizing the negative effects of HM. The present study investigates the effects of Zn and Cd stress on P. crispum morphological parameters, enzymatic/non-enzymatic antioxidant profiling and metal accumulation in shoot/root. Plants were exposed...

Mechanical properties and water resistance improvement of thermoplastic modified starch, carboxymethyl cellulose, and zinc oxide nanometal particles by reactive blending
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Sep 10:126783. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.126783. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNovel biodegradable thermoplastic starch (TPS) with high mechanical properties and water resistance was developed using reactive blending technique. Effect of zinc oxide (ZnO) addition to TPS properties and reaction was investigated. Thermoplastic modified starch (TPMS) was prepared by melt-mixing modified starch with glycerol 70/30%wt/wt. Carboxy methyl cellulose (CMC) 5%wt was incorporated with modified starch, glycerol, and zinc oxide (ZnO) 0-5 %wt. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy analysis confirmed...

Novel pathogenic GATA6 variant associated with congenital heart disease, diabetes mellitus and necrotizing enterocolitis
CONCLUSIONS: We report a novel, familial GATA6 likely pathogenic variant associated with CHD, DM, and NEC with intestinal perforation. These findings expand the phenotypic spectrum of pathologic GATA6 variation to include intestinal abnormalities.IMPACT: Exome sequencing identified a novel heterozygous GATA6 variant (p.Cys468Tyr) that segregated in a family with CHD including persistent truncus arteriosus, atrial septal defects and bicuspid aortic valve. Additionally, affected members displayed extracardiac findings including childhood-onset diabetes mellitus, and uniquely, necrotizing enterocolitis with intestinal perfora...

Green synthesis of zinc and nickel dual-doped cerium oxide nanoparticles: antioxidant activity and cytotoxicity effects
Bioprocess Biosyst Eng. 2023 Sep 12. doi: 10.1007/s00449-023-02920-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCerium oxide nanoparticles (CeO2-NPs) and Zn-Ni dual-doped CeO2-NPs were synthesized through a green approach by the implication of zucchini peel (Cucurbita pepo) extract as a capping and reduction agent. All the synthesized samples were studied by the results of FTIR, UV-Vis, XRD, and FESEM/EDAX/PSA analyses. The Zn-Ni dual-doped CeO2-NPs contained a spherical morphology and their size was observed to increase at higher temperatures. The conducted MTT assay on the Huh-7 cell line displayed 50% of cells annihilation as a res...

Unraveling the role of ZNF506 as a human PBS-pro-targeting protein for ERVP repression
Nucleic Acids Res. 2023 Sep 11:gkad731. doi: 10.1093/nar/gkad731. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTKrüppel-associated box zinc finger proteins (KZFPs) function as a defense mechanism to maintain the genome stability of higher vertebrates by regulating the transcriptional activities of transposable elements (TEs). While previous studies have characterized ZFP809 as responsible for binding and repressing ERVs containing a proline tRNA primer-binding site (PBS-Pro) in mice, comparable KZFPs have not been identified in humans yet. Here, we identified ZNF506 as a PBS-Pro-binding protein in humans, which functions as a transcripti...
