Quantification of Phytochemicals and Metal Ions as well as the Determination of Volatile Compounds, Antioxidant, Antimicrobial and Antacid Activities of the Mimosa pudica L. Leaf: Exploration of Neglected and Under-Utilized Part
Chem Biodivers. 2023 Sep 20:e202301049. doi: 10.1002/cbdv.202301049. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMimosa pudica L. (MP) is well-known plant in traditional medicinal system, especially in India. Unfortunately, leaves of MP are less explored. To determine the food and nutritional value of the neglected part of Mimosa pudica L. (MP), that is MP leaves, phytochemicals and metal ions of MP were quantified by newly developed HPLC and ICPOES-based methods. The content of phytochemicals observed using HPLC analysis for chlorogenic acid, catechin, and epicatechin was 141.823 (±8.171), 666.621 (±11.432), and 293.175 (±12.743) μ...

Polycystic Kidney Disease Diet: What Is Known and What Is Safe
Clin J Am Soc Nephrol. 2023 Sep 20. doi: 10.2215/CJN.0000000000000326. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAutosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is a genetic disorder characterized by kidney cyst formation and progressive kidney function loss. Dietary interventions such as caloric restriction, intermittent fasting, and the ketogenic diet have recently emerged as potential strategies to induce metabolic reprogramming and slow ADPKD progression. We review the available evidence supporting the efficacy and safety of these interventions in ADPKD. Dietary interventions show promise in managing ADPKD by improving metabo...

Characterization, health benefits, and food applications of enzymatic digestion- resistant dextrin: A review
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Sep 18:126970. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.126970. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTResistant dextrin or resistant maltodextrin (RD), a short-chain glucose polymer that is highly resistant to hydrolysis by human digestive enzymes, has shown broad developmental prospects in the food industry and has gained substantial attention owing to its lack of undesirable effects on the sensory features of food or the digestive system. However, comprehensive fundamental and application information on RD and how RD improves anti-diabetes and obesity have not yet been received. Therefore, the characterization, hea...

Comprehensive profiling of the metabolome in corn silage inoculated with or without < em > Lactiplantibacillus plantarum < /em > using different untargeted metabolomics analyses
Arch Anim Nutr. 2023 Sep 19:1-19. doi: 10.1080/1745039X.2023.2247824. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSilage fermentation is a complicated biochemical process involving interactions between microbes and metabolites. However, the overall metabolome feature of ensiled forage and its response to lactic acid bacteria inoculation is poorly understood. Hence, in this study metabolome profiles of whole-plant corn silage inoculated with or without Lactiplantibacillus plantarum were characterised via solid-phase microextraction/gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (SPME-GC-MS), gas chromatography/time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC-...

Association between total available nutritional quality and food expenditure in Peruvian households, 2019-2020
Cad Saude Publica. 2023 Sep 18;39(9):e00021923. doi: 10.1590/0102-311XEN021923. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTEvidence points to a direct relationship between nutritional quality and food expenditure. However, food expenditure is highly susceptible to changes, and nutritional quality of household food presents limited evidence. The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between nutritional quality available and total food expenditure in Peruvian households, and whether there were differences by area (urban and rural) and between years of the COVID-19 pandemic. For this, we used Peru's National Household Survey (ENAHO)...

Calcium signaling-mediated transcriptional reprogramming during abiotic stress response in plants
Theor Appl Genet. 2023 Sep 20;136(10):210. doi: 10.1007/s00122-023-04455-2.ABSTRACTCalcium (Ca2+) is a second messenger in plants growth and development, as well as in stress responses. The transient elevation in cytosolic Ca2+ concentration have been reported to be involved in plants response to abiotic and biotic stresses. In plants, Ca2+-induced transcriptional changes trigger molecular mechanisms by which plants adapt and respond to environment stresses. The mechanism for transcription regulation by Ca2+ could be either rapid in which Ca2+ signals directly cause the related response through the gene transcript and prot...

Comparison of proximal gastrectomy with double-flap technique and double-tract reconstruction for proximal early gastric cancer: a meta-analysis
AbstractSurgical resection is the main treatment for proximal gastric cancer, but there is no consensus on its reconstruction. We carried out a meta-analysis to evaluate the effects of double-tract reconstruction (DTR) and double-flap technique (DFT) on postoperative quality of life in patients with proximal gastric cancer. Systematic searches of PubMed, Web of Science, EBSCO, and the Cochrane Library were performed. Literature for the last 5  years was searched without language restrictions. The cutoff date for the search was 12 April 2023. Literature and research searches were conducted independently by two researchers ...

Rural nutrition and dietetics research-Future directions
CONCLUSION: Establishing strong, collaborative place-based nutrition and dietetics research teams are necessary to combat the significant gaps in the scientific knowledge of solutions to improve nutrition in rural Australia. Further, dieticians and nutritionists who live in and understand the rural contexts are yet to be fully harnessed in research, and better engaging with these professionals will have the best chance of successfully addressing the nutrition-related disease disparity between rural and metropolitan Australia.PMID:37723938 | DOI:10.1111/ajr.13041
