Ten-Year Trends of Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation in Korean Pediatric Cancer from the National Health Insurance Claims Data
CONCLUSION: In Korea, the number of pediatric patients with cancer is declining; however, the ratio of transplants to all patients remains constant. Patients who recently underwent transplantation showed better survival rates, possibly due to HSCT optimization. Korea showed a substantially greater PBSC utilization in pediatric HSCT. An in-depth examination encompassing donor relations and cause of death with a prospective registry is required in future studies.PMID:37680122 | DOI:10.4143/crt.2023.598

Medication Adherence in Patients with Hematologic Malignancies who are Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Survivors: A Qualitative Study
CONCLUSION: Facilitators and barriers to medication adherence can be physical, psychological, organizational, or social. Further, there are many aspects of the medication regimens that significantly increase patient distress. Hence, supportive interventions to improve medication adherence in patients undergoing HSCT may need to incorporate strategies to manage medication side-effects and skills to improve psychological well-being and social support.PMID:37516379 | DOI:10.1016/j.jtct.2023.07.019

Incidence and Features of Lymphoid Proliferation and Lymphomas after Solid Organ or Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation in a National Database Cohort
CONCLUSION: We observed a steady increase in PTLD over 10 years after HCT or SOT in this large cohort study. Pediatric age group, HCT, liver transplantation, and heart transplantation were suggested to be risk factors for PTLD, and PTLD was associated with a higher risk of death.PMID:37475137 | DOI:10.4143/crt.2023.647

Pneumococcal vaccination coverage at the initiation of chronic dialysis, and its association with mortality during the first year
CONCLUSIONS: Pneumococcal immunization with PCV13 followed by PPSV23, or with PCV13 alone, but not with PPSV23 alone, is independently associated with decreased one year-mortality in patients who start dialysis.PMID:37179164 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.05.003

Comorbidities and the use of comedications among patients with chronic hepatitis C in Korea: A nationwide cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: With the increasing age of patients with CHC, comorbidity, comedication, and potential DDI should be considered when choosing antivirals in Korea. Sofosbuvir-based regimens showed favorable DDI profiles among Korean patients.PMID:37032119 | DOI:10.3904/kjim.2022.215

Survival outcomes of patients newly diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma: real-world evidence from a German claims database
CONCLUSION: DLBCL-associated mortality is still high, especially in relapsed patients and in the elderly. Therefore, there is a high medical need for new effective treatments that can improve survival outcomes in DLBCL patients.PMID:36871091 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-023-04660-y

Risk of Severe Alphaherpesvirus Infection after Solid Organ Transplantation: A Nationwide Population-Based Cohort Study
Biomedicines. 2023 Feb 20;11(2):637. doi: 10.3390/biomedicines11020637.ABSTRACTPatients after solid organ transplantation (SOT) are more susceptible to various viral infections, including alphaherpesviruses. Therefore, the aim of our study was to investigate the risk of alphaherpesvirus infections, including herpes simplex and herpes zoster, after solid organ transplantation. Inpatient records from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) defined solid organ recipients, including heart, liver, lung, and kidney, hospitalized for alphaherpesvirus infections as a severe case group of transplants and matc...
