The Quality of Information on Combined Oral Contraceptives Available on the Internet.
CONCLUSION: Online information on COCs was variable in quality, often missing key information for making informed decisions. Health care providers should be aware of information gaps when advising women to seek information online. PMID: 31003948 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Vaginal estrogen use and chronic disease risk in the Nurses’ Health Study
Conclusions: Vaginal estrogen use was not associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular disease or cancer. Our findings lend support to the safety of vaginal estrogen use, a highly effective treatment for genitourinary syndrome of menopause.

Review of Migraine Incidence and Management in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
ConclusionMigraines have a high incidence in gynaecology and obstetrics. Health care providers must include screening questions when history taking to identify women with migraines and effectively manage them. Proper follow-up and treatment is required for all women with migraines in order to minimize the risk of cerebrovascular events, and negative pregnancy outcomes. Women with migraines are advised to avoid combined hormonal contraception and use progesterone only pills.

Increased suicide risk among patients oophorectomized following benign conditions and its association with comorbidities.
Conclusion: A significant increase in suicide rate among oophorectomized women aged 20-49 years was found. The decision to perform oophorectomy should be made cautiously, especially in patients with hypertension, COPD, chronic liver disease and cirrhosis or anxiety disorder. Patients should be followed for at least 6 years postoperatively since the suicide rate is significantly higher in this period. PMID: 31462149 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Neurological disease in pregnancy
Neurological disease encompasses a broad spectrum of conditions which may be affected by pregnancy, present de novo in pregnancy, or are caused by the pregnancy itself. In the UK, 9.8 women in 100,000 died during pregnancy or up to 42 days after delivery (Mothers and Babies Reducing Risk through Confidential Enquiry (MBRRACE) report 2018). Neurological diseases, including epilepsy and stroke, continues to be the second leading indirect cause of maternal mortality and the numbers have not changed since reporting began in 1985, despite the availability of easily accessible Green-top Guidelines on the management of epilepsy t...

Lipid profile differences during menopause: a review with meta-analysis
Conclusions: These findings are important as they provide precise estimates of lipid differences in women around menopause. Furthermore the results suggest that the unfavorable lipid profile that develops in postmenopausal women puts them at higher risk of cardiovascular disease such as heart disease and stroke if appropriate lifestyle/pharmacological interventions are not implemented.

Promoting Cardiovascular Health in Midlife Women
AbstractPurpose of ReviewCardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the number one cause of death in the USA. In women, coronary heart disease (CHD) accounts for 22% of deaths with an additional 6.2% of deaths secondary to stroke. The prevalence of CVD increases as women age; after the age of 75, the incidence will exceed that reported for men. The risk for CVD in women is systematically underestimated. Both healthcare providers and women need a better understanding of the mechanism and role of traditional CVD risk factors (CVDRF) in women, and the newer identified non-traditional CVDRF which are unique to women and the resultin...

Treatment of severe hypertension during pregnancy: we still do not know what the best option is.
Authors: Wertaschnigg D, Wang R, Reddy M, Costa FDS, Mol BWJ, Rolnik DL Abstract Intracranial hemorrhage and stroke are primary causes of maternal mortality in pregnancies affected by hypertensive disorders. As such antihypertensive therapy plays a crucial role in the management of severe hypertension. However, the target level to achieve the best outcome for both - mother and fetus - is still unclear. Moreover, given the lack of well-designed randomized controlled trials with standardized key outcomes, the current choice of antihypertensive medications depends rather on clinicians' preference. Furthermore, data on...

1137: At what blood pressures do hypertensive women develop severe maternal morbidity: the  clinical inflection point
Sustained severe hypertension (systolic blood pressure, SBP,>160 mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure, DBP,>110 mmHg for 15 minutes) is a risk factor for severe maternal morbidities (SMM), as defined by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). However, evidence for morbidity at these pressures is based on limited studies of peripartum stroke. We aimed to determine whether specific hypertensive parameters exist above which SMM increases.
