Establishing a pediatric acute stroke protocol: experience of a new pediatric stroke program and predictors of acute stroke
ConclusionA trainee developed and initiated pediatric acute stroke protocol quickly implemented a hospital wide change in management that led to rapid diagnosis and triage of pediatric stroke and suspected stroke. No additional personnel or resources were needed for this change, and we encourage other hospitals and emergency departments to implement similar systems. Additionally, hemiparesis and altered mental status were predictors of stroke for pediatric acute stroke activation in our Bayesian statistical analysis. A comparative study of seizures in arterial and venous stroke
Conclusion CVST results in more frequent and early seizures whereas in arterial stroke late seizures are common. Post stroke seizures in ischemic stroke were predicted by carotid territory infarction and venous stroke by parenchymal involvement.

Stroke Mimics and Chameleons from the Radiological Viewpoint of Glioma Diagnosis.
This study enrolled 214 patients who underwent tumor resection for suspected glioma. Early brain imaging predictors of post-stroke spasticity
CONCLUSION: Lesions involving motor network areas are considered to be a precondition of post-stroke spasticity. There is, however, a low risk of developing post-stroke spasticity with < 0.5 cm3 volumes of supratentorial brain lesions involving motor network areas. Larger volume brain lesions involving motor network areas, e.g. > 3 cm3, were significantly more common in patients with post-stroke spasticity. Identification of acute stroke using quantified brain electrical activity.

Can we distinguish stroke and stroke mimics via red cell distribution width in young patients?

Magnetic resonance perfusion imaging provides a significant tool for the identification of cardioembolic stroke.

BOLD fMRI signal in stroke patients and its importance for prognosis in the subacute disease period – Preliminary report
Conclusion There are differences observed in the activation areas of the cerebral cortex both in the stroke and non-stroke hemispheres of the brain in stroke patients. More than half of the patients with hemispheric stroke but all with good outcome showed cerebellar activation. There was no clear correlation between the cortical activation pattern and the neurological status on the first day of stroke. There is probable positive correlation between the size of BOLD-signal in fMRI, young age, activation of supplementary motor area in stroke hemisphere and good functional status of patients in the subacute period of stroke.

Sex differences and risk factors in recurrent ischemic stroke
ConclusionHypertension and dyslipidemia were significant risk factors of recurrent ischemic stroke in both genders. Smoking and alcohol drinking were significant risk factors associated with ischemic stroke recurrence in males. Therefore, smoking cessation and alcohol abstinence are recommended after the first stroke to prevent recurrent ischemic stroke especially for males.
