Correlation between clot density and recanalization success or stroke etiology in acute ischemic stroke patients.
Conclusions There was no relationship between clot density and revascularization success or stroke etiology in our study. More research is needed to determine if clot density can predict recanalization rates or indicate etiology. PMID: 28604188 [PubMed - in process]

In light of recently published clinical trials and their implication for clinical practice, does a large catchment area acute hospital require 24  hour CT neck and head angiography and/or neuro-interventional services in the setting of acute ischaemic stroke?
ConclusionUHL should provide routine CT angiography to all patients presenting with acute ischaemic stroke in line with current guidelines. The need for provision of neuro-interventional services on-site proved more difficult to assess and requires further analysis.

High prevalence of atrial fibrillation in stroke patients admitted to university of gondar hospital, northwest ethiopia.
Conclusion: Atrial fibrillation is common in stroke patients in our hospital, especially in the elderly population. It is associated with low rate of improvement at discharge. Appropriate screening and treatment of atrial fibrillation is invaluable for the primary and secondary prevention of stroke. PMID: 29115119 [PubMed]

Transcranial Doppler sonography for detecting stenosis or occlusion of intracranial arteries in people with acute ischaemic stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: This review provides evidence that TCD or TCCD, administered by professionals with adequate experience and skills, can provide useful diagnostic information for detecting stenosis or occlusion of intracranial vessels in people with acute ischaemic stroke, or guide the request for more invasive vascular neuroimaging, especially where CT or MR-based vascular imaging are not immediately available. More studies are needed to confirm or refute the results of this review in a larger sample of stroke patients, to verify the role of contrast medium and to evaluate the clinical advantage of the use of ultrasound. ...

Misdiagnosis of lamotrigine toxicity as posterior circulation transient ischemic attack or stroke.
CONCLUSION: Emergency departments will frequently call a stroke alert for patients taking LTG and presenting with symptoms consistent with LTG toxicity, particularly in seniors at greater risk of stroke. This adds not only expense but also radiation and contrast exposure from computed tomography (CT) studies. We recommend that a rapid LTG assay be made available and always ordered in patients receiving LTG, avoiding the considerable expense of an unnecessary stroke evaluation. Early apixaban therapy after ischemic stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation
ConclusionsSymptomatic HT rates are likely to be low in randomized trials of DOAC initiation post-stroke. Recurrent ischemic stroke may be the major clinical outcome. These data may be used as expected event rates when calculating sample size requirements for future safety/efficacy trials of early versus late DOAC initiation after AF-related stroke.

Prehospital Notification Using a Mobile Application Can Improve Regional Stroke Care System in a Metropolitan Area
CONCLUSION: The FASTroke app is an easy and useful tool for prenotification as a regional stroke care system in the metropolitan area, leading to reduced transport and acute ischemic stroke management time and more reperfusion treatment. The effect was more significant when the preregistration was performed jointly.PMID:34904406 | DOI:10.3346/jkms.2021.36.e327
