Disturbed Ratios between Essential and Toxic Trace Elements as Potential Biomarkers of Acute Ischemic Stroke
CONCLUSIONS: Our research has shown that the disruption of the metal balance plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of AIS. Furthermore, our results broaden those of previous studies on the exposure to Cd and Pb as risk factors for AIS. Further investigations are necessary to examine the probable mechanisms of Cd and Pb in the onset of ischemic stroke. The Cd/Zn molar ratio may be a useful biomarker of atherosclerosis in AIS patients. An accurate assessment of changes in the molar ratios of essential and toxic trace elements could serve as a valuable indicator of the nutritional status and levels of oxidative stress in A...

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 5290: Cognitive Performance Deficits Are Associated with Clinically Significant Depression Symptoms in Older US Adults
nos Accumulating research has described cognitive impairment in adults with depression, however, few studies have focused on this relationship during older adulthood. Our cross-sectional study investigated the association between cognitive function performance and clinically significant depression symptoms in older adults. We analysed the data from the 2011 to 2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey on older (aged 60 years and above) US adults. Cognitive function was assessed as a composite score and on a test-by-test basis based on the Consortium to Establish a Registry for Alzheimer’s Dise...

The relationship between the baseline geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) and neurological function at the convalescence stage in patients with stroke: a cross-sectional study
Malnutrition is a common complication after stroke and may worsen neurological outcomes for patients. There are still no uniform tools for screening nutritional status for the patients with stroke. We aimed to...

Prevalence And Association With Outcomes Of The Espen And Easo-Defined Diagnostic Criteria For Sarcopenic Obesity In Patients Undergoing Rehabilitation After Stroke
Rationale: Sarcopenic obesity, characterized by the coexistence of sarcopenia and obesity, is of growing research and clinical interest; however, validated diagnostic criteria are lacking. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the prevalence of sarcopenic obesity, as diagnosed by the criteria recently proposed by the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN) and the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO), and its association with outcomes among patients undergoing rehabilitation after stroke.

Shear vs extensional. What rheological properties affect the therapeutic effect of thickening products on safety of swallow in post-stroke oropharyngeal dysphagia?
This study aims to explore the relationship between shear viscosity and extensional characteristics of 4 thickening products (TP): Product A (Modified Starch-based), B (Xanthan gum-based, XG), C (XG), D (Mixture) and their therapeutic effect on safety of swallow in PSOD.

The Association between Dietary Carotenoid Intake and Risk of Depression among Patients with Cardiometabolic Disease
This study aimed to assess the association of dietary carotenoid intake with risk of depression among patients with cardiometabolic disease.Data were obtained from the 2005 to 2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Participants aged ≥ 20 years with any chronic cardiometabolic diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease, heart failure, and stroke, were included in this cross-sectional study. We enrolled a total of 8655 cardiometabolic disease patients in the analysis. Compared to those in the lowest tertile, patients with cardiometabolic disease in the third tertiles of dietary α-car...
