Factors influencing appropriate use of interventions for management of women experiencing preterm birth: A mixed-methods systematic review and narrative synthesis
ConclusionsIn this study, we identified critical factors affecting implementation of 4 interventions to improve preterm birth management globally. Policymakers and implementers can consider these barriers and facilitators when formulating policies and planning implementation or scale-up of these interventions. Study findings can inform clinical preterm birth guidelines and implementation to ensure that barriers are addressed, and enablers are reinforced to ensure these interventions are widely available and appropriately used globally.

Corrosion of carbon steel by bacteria from North Sea offshore seawater injection systems: Laboratory investigation.
Abstract Influence of sulfidogenic bacteria, from a North Sea seawater injection system, on the corrosion of S235JR carbon steel was studied in a flow bioreactor; operating anaerobically for 100days with either inoculated or filtrated seawater. Deposits formed on steel placed in reactors contained magnesium and calcium minerals plus iron sulfide. The dominant biofilm-forming organism was an anaerobic bacterium, genus Caminicella, known to produce hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide. Open Circuit Potentials (OCP) of steel in the reactors was, for nearly the entire test duration, in the range -800<E(OCP)/mV (vs. ...

The Shadow Boxer
Conclusion The patient was admitted to a monitored setting with a diagnosis of GHB withdrawal. He had multiple episodes of agitation and combativeness during his admission. He was administered escalating doses of diazepam, a total of 480 mg of diazepam IV during his eight-day hospital stay. The patient recovered in eight days, and was referred to drug rehabilitation.   References 1. Dyer JE, Roth B, Hyma BA. Gamma-hydroxybutyrate withdrawal syndrome. Ann Emerg Med 2001;37(2):147. 2. Knowledge and Practices of Pediatricians Regarding Functional Constipation in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil
Conclusions: The knowledge of pediatricians regarding FC is inadequate. Constipation may not receive the public health attention it deserves within pediatric residency programs. The authors suggest that better education regarding FC should be included in medical school and residency program curricula to improve patient care.

Acute Treatment Therapies for Pediatric Migraine: A Qualitative Systematic Review.
CONCLUSIONS: Of the available evidence, ibuprofen, prochlorperazine, and certain triptan medications are the most effective and safe agents for acute management of migraine and other benign headache disorders in the pediatric population. Additional studies in this population are needed, and should take into consideration variables such as dosing, co-administered medications, treatment duration, and length of treatment effect. Anomalous distribution of fluoride and phosphorus forms in surface sediments along eastern Egyptian Mediterranean Sea coast.
Abstract The study focused on the distribution of fluoride, total phosphorus, and four phosphorus fractions in some sites along the Egyptian Mediterranean Sea coast. The geochemical parameters and textures of 30 surficial sediment samples from six sectors were determined. The sediment's geochemical parameters (total carbonates (TCO3) and total organic carbon (TOC), exchangeable and carbonate-associated phosphorus (Pex), iron- and aluminum-associated phosphorus (POH), calcium-associated phosphate/apatite (PHCl), residual phosphorus (PR), total phosphorus (TP), calcium (Cas), magnesium (Mgs), and fluoride (Fs)) show...

Regulatory mechanism of mineral-balanced deep sea water on hypocholesterolemic effects in HepG2 hepatic cells.
Abstract Several previous studies have shown the benefits of deep sea water (DSW) in lipid metabolism. However, the effects of DSW on cellular cholesterol accumulation and synthesis induced by high glucose or free fatty acid plus high glucose [4.5g/L] (FFA/glucose) have not been fully elucidated to date. Herein, we showed the effects of mineral-balanced DSW [magnesium (Mg):calcium (Ca)=3:1] (MB-DSW) on cholesterol metabolism induced by high glucose or FFA/glucose in HepG2 hepatic cells. Moreover, the effects of high ratio Mg DSW [Mg:Ca=40:1] (Mg40) were also investigated. MB-DSW and Mg40 prevented the increase of ...

Love those legumes!
“Legumes” sounds like such a fancy word.  Let’s clarify that we’re talking about beans, folks. Beans, lentils, peas, chickpeas, it’s all good… and good for you.  Legumes are amazingly nutritious, high in protein and fiber, low in fat, and low in glycemic load. Legumes for heart health Scientific studies have definitively linked a diet high in legumes with a lower risk of developing obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, or strokes. As a matter of fact, eating legumes every day can effectively treat these diseases in people who already have them. In one randomized controlled c...

A Comparison of the Efficacy of Enema Solutions in Pediatric Emergency Department Patients.
CONCLUSIONS: There was no significant difference in reported stool output produced by sodium phosphate, soap suds, and pink lady enemas in children treated in an ED. Further study via randomized controlled trials would be beneficial in guiding selection of enema solution. PMID: 31594739 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Preparation of high-purity magnesium-ammonium-phosphate fertilizer using sea bittern and industrial waste streams.
Abstract The production of fertilizer magnesium ammonium phosphate (MAP, Mg.NH4PO4.6H2O), commonly known as struvite, has been investigated in this study by mixing waste effluents of different sources. Effluents form pigment preparation industry rich in ammonium carbonate and poly phosphoric acid have been used as source of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P), respectively, whereas sea bittern has been used as a source of Mg. The stoichiometric mole ratio of the Mg2+ to NH4+ to PO43- in the mixed reaction liquid was maintained as 1:0.5:1 and 1:1:1, and the pH value of the reaction liquid was adjusted to 8.5 using sodi...

Circulating trace elements: comparison between early and late incubation in common eiders (Somateria mollissima) in the central Baltic Sea.
Abstract We analyzed body mass and a panel of 64 trace elements in blood from incubating common eiders (Somateria mollissima) in the central Baltic Sea during the breeding seasons of 2017 (n = 27) and 2018 (n = 23). Using a non-invasive approach, the same incubating eiders nesting on Christiansø, Denmark were sampled once on day 4 and day 24 of incubation to provide a comparison between the early and late stages of incubation. Blood concentrations of chemical elements were quantified using high-resolution inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (HR-ICP-MS). Cadmium and lead significantly increased over the c...

Magnesium nebulization utilization in management of pediatric asthma (MagNUM PA) trial: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial
Discussion If effective, inhaled Mg may represent an effective strategy to minimize morbidity in pediatric refractory acute asthma. Unlike previous works, this trial targets nonresponders to optimized initial therapy who are the most likely to benefit from inhaled Mg. Future dissemination of results will include knowledge translation, incorporation into a Cochrane Review, presentation at scientific meetings, and a peer-reviewed publication. Trial registration NCTO1429415, registered 2 September 2011.
