Unveiling pro-angiogenesis and drug delivery using dual-bio polymer with bio-ceramic based nanocomposite hydrogels
Chemosphere. 2023 Sep 8:140131. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.140131. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn regenerative medicine, blood vessel development is of utmost importance as it enables the restoration of blood flow to tissues, and facilitate rapid vascularization in clinical tissue-engineered grafts. Herein, we fabricate the nanocomposite hydrogels from BG, alginate, Polyethylene glycol (PEG) and Dexamethasone (DEX) for the dual applications of drug delivery and angiogenesis assay. The hydrogels were fabricated through cross-linking approach and termed as alginate/PEG (A), alginate/PEG/clinophosinaite (AC), and algin...

Evaluation of a semi-automated approach for FDG PET image analysis for routine clinical application in patients with multiple myeloma
CONCLUSIONS: This semi-automated analysis was in high agreement with standard approaches for detecting response to MM therapy. This proof-of-concept study suggests that larger studies should be conducted to confirm how FDG PET analysis may aid early response detection in MM.PMID:37657154 | DOI:10.1016/j.tranon.2023.101767

Direct drug milling in organic PLGA solution facilitates the encapsulation of nanosized drug into PLGA microparticles
The objective of this study was to prepare poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) microparticles loaded with nanosized drug by combining non-aqueous wet bead milling and microencapsulation. 200 - 300 nm dexamethasone, hydrocortisone and dexamethasone sodium phosphate nanosuspensions were successfully prepared by wet bead milling the drug in dichloromethane using PLGA as a stabilizer. PLGA microparticles loaded with nanosized drugs were then prepared by a solid-in-oil-in-water (S/O/W) solvent evaporation method or solid-in-oil-in-oil (S/O/O) organic phase separation method. The microparticles were characterized by laser diffract...

Macronodular adrenal hyperplasia causing Cushing's syndrome due to ARMC5 gene mutation.
Orv Hetil. 2023 Aug 13;164(32):1271-1277. doi: 10.1556/650.2023.32817. Print 2023 Aug 13.ABSTRACTOur 69-year-old female patient was investigated for a 20 kg weight gain over 2 years. The patient's medical history included hypertension, hyperuricemia, bilateral cataract surgery and musculosceletal complaints. Diabetes mellitus was not found. Physical examination revealed abdominal obesity, proximal myopathy and atrophic, vulnerable skin. The "overnight", low-dose and long, low-dose dexamethasone suppression tests indicated autonomous cortisol overproduction (plasma cortisol level: 172.6 and 153.2 nmol/L, cut-off: 50 nmol/L)...

Statistical modeling and optimization of dexamethasone adsorption from aqueous solution by Fe3O4@NH2-MIL88B nanorods: Isotherm, Kinetics, and Thermodynamic
Environ Res. 2023 Aug 3:116773. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2023.116773. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe presence of pharmaceutical compounds in the environment poses a significant threat to human and aquatic animal health. Dexamethasone (DEX), a synthetic steroid hormone with endocrine-disrupting effects, is one such compound that needs to be effectively removed before discharging into the environment. This research presents a novel approach utilizing magnetically recyclable Fe3O4@NH2-MIL88B NRs as an efficient adsorbent for the treatment of DEX from aqueous solutions. The synthesized adsorbent was characterized by X-ray diff...

2-deoxy-2- < sup > 18 < /sup > Ffluoro-D-glucose Positron Emission Tomography to Monitor Lung Inflammation and Therapeutic Response to Dexamethasone in a Murine Model of Acute Lung Injury
CONCLUSIONS: [18F]FDG PET noninvasively detects lung inflammation in ALI and its response to anti-inflammatory therapy in a preclinical model. However, high [18F]FDG uptake by bone, brown fat, and myocardium remains a technical limitation for quantification of [18F]FDG in the lungs.PMID:36941514 | PMC:PMC10027262 | DOI:10.1007/s11307-023-01813-w
