Evaluation of nano-curcumin against inhaled paraquat-induced lung injury in rats
CONCLUSIONS: Nano-CU ameliorated lung damage induced by inhaled PQ similar to dexa and a synergic effect between nano-CU and PIO was observed, suggesting, a possible PPAR-γ receptor-mediated effect of curcumin.PMID:37039972 | DOI:10.1007/s43440-023-00483-3

Paraquat-induced systemic inflammation and oxidative stress in rats improved by Curcuma longa ethanolic extract, curcumin and a PPAR agonist
Toxicon. 2023 Mar 23:107090. doi: 10.1016/j.toxicon.2023.107090. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe effect of Curcuma longa (Cl) ethanolic extract, nano-curcumin (Cu) and a PPARγ activator, pioglitazone on inhaled paraquat (PQ)-induced systemic inflammation and oxidative stress was examined in the present study. Control rats were exposed to normal saline and PQ groups to 27 and 54 mg/m3 (PQ-L and PQ-H) aerosols. Nine other PQ-H groups were treated with Curcuma longa (Cl, 150 and 600 mg/kg/day), nano-curcumin (Cu, 2 and 8 mg/kg/day), pioglitazone (Pio, 5 and 10 mg/kg), low dose of Pio + Cl and Cu and dexamethasone (0.03 mg/...

Comparative study on the impacts of visnagin and its methoxy derivative khellin on human lymphocyte proliferation and Th < sub > 1 < /sub > /Th < sub > 2 < /sub > balance
CONCLUSIONS: In PHA-stimulated lymphocytes, representing Th2 dominant allergic diseases, khellin and visnagin provides more specific anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory functions than dexamethasone. In addition, the effects of khellin were more prominent than visnagin.PMID:36745338 | DOI:10.1007/s43440-023-00452-w

Protective effects of intranasal curcumin on silica-induced lung damage
CONCLUSIONS: Present study shows protective effects of intranasal curcumin on silica-induced airway inflammation and structural changes thereby lung damage. Hence, it can be considered as an alternative and complementary medication for silicosis.PMID:35764024 | DOI:10.1016/j.cyto.2022.155949

Intranasal curcumin and dexamethasone combination ameliorates inflammasome (NLRP3) activation in lipopolysachharide exposed asthma exacerbations
Toxicol Appl Pharmacol. 2022 Jan 5;436:115861. doi: 10.1016/j.taap.2021.115861. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe inflammasome NOD-like receptor (NLR) family, the pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) is closely associated with exacerbation of asthma as endotoxin (lipopolysaccharide, LPS) is one of its activators present in the environment. Present study is undertaken to investigate anti-inflammatory effects of a well known phytochemical, curcumin, which might regulate LPS exposed asthma exacerbations by modulating NLRP3 activation if given through intranasal route. Balb/c mice were sensitized with intraperitoneal injection of...

Hormesis and stem cells enhancing cell proliferation, differentiation and resilience to inflammatory stress in bone marrow stem cells and their therapeutic implications
Chem Biol Interact. 2021 Oct 30:109730. doi: 10.1016/j.cbi.2021.109730. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis paper identifies and provides the first detailed assessment of hormetic dose responses by bone marrow stem cells (BMSCs) from a broad range of animal models and humans with particular emphasis on cell renewal (proliferation), cell differentiation and enhancing resilience to inflammatory stress. Such hormetic dose responses are commonly reported, being induced by a broad range of chemicals, including pharmaceuticals (e.g., caffeine, dexamethasone, nicotine), dietary supplements (e.g., curcumin, Ginkgo biloba, green tea...

A Comparative Study to Evaluate the Efficacy of Curcumin Lozenges (TurmNova < sup > ® < /sup > ) and Intralesional Corticosteroids with Hyaluronidase in Management of Oral Submucous Fibrosis
CONCLUSION: Curcumin (100 mg) in an innovative delivery system of lozenge results in a higher level of plasma curcumin level. The aforementioned dosages prevent its biotransformation and inactivation by the liver enzymes. Because of these properties, curcumin lozenges are safer, low-cost, and effective alternative treatment in contrast to the present traditional treatment. Further long-term, prospective, large-scale studies need to be done.CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Curcumin has a role in the treatment of oral premalignant conditions and acts as a very effective chemopreventive agent in the prevention of cancer.PMID:34615779
