A Mouse Model to Investigate the Impact of Gender Affirming Hormone Therapy with Estradiol on Reproduction
Adv Biol (Weinh). 2023 Sep 8:e2300126. doi: 10.1002/adbi.202300126. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) can help transgender and/or gender diverse (TGD) individuals achieve emobidment goals that align with their transition needs. Clinical evidence from estradiol (E)-GAHT patients indicate widespread changes in tissues sensitive to E and testosterone (T), particularly in the reproductive system. Notably, E-GAHTs effects on hormones and reproduction vary greatly between patients. With the goal of informing clinical research and practice for TGD individuals taking E, this study examines intac...

Cystatin C-Based eGFR Changes during Gender-Affirming Hormone Therapy in Transgender Individuals
CONCLUSIONS: In this cohort of transgender individuals, cystatin C-based eGFR increased with estradiol and anti-androgen therapy and decreased with testosterone therapy.PMID:37678248 | DOI:10.2215/CJN.0000000000000289

Fight Aging! Newsletter, August 7th 2023
In conclusion, here, we demonstrate a novel mechanism for ESC-EVs to protect cells from senescence. However, whether ESC-EVs rejuvenate aged mice via miR-15b-5p and miR-290a-5p remains unknown. Next, we plan to use miR-15b-5p and miR-290a-5p antagonists while treating aged mice with ESC-EVs to further investigate the mechanism by which ESC-EVs resist aging in vivo. « Back to Top Fatty Acid Metabolism as a Commonality in Different Approaches to Slowing Aging https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2023/08/fatty-acid-metabolism-as-a-commonality-in-different-approaches-to-slowing-aging/ It seems...

Hormonal therapies in females with blood disorders: thrombophilia, thrombosis, hemoglobinopathies, and anemias
Res Pract Thromb Haemost. 2023 Apr 24;7(4):100161. doi: 10.1016/j.rpth.2023.100161. eCollection 2023 May.ABSTRACTThere is widespread use of gonadal steroid hormone therapy for a variety of indications throughout the reproductive and postreproductive lifespan. These therapies may have particular benefits and specific risk among those with blood disorders, including inherited or acquired bleeding disorders, thrombophilia, thrombosis, or anemia. This clinical review is intended to provide a guidance for counseling and management of adolescent and adult biologic females with thrombophilic risk factors and/or thrombosis who req...

Age but not menopausal status is linked to lower resting energy expenditure
CONCLUSIONS: We demonstrated that REEadj declines with age in women before late adulthood, also when controlling partially for genetic background, and that menopause may not contribute to this decline.PMID:37265230 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgad321

Adherence to Gender Affirming Hormone Therapy in Transgender Adolescents and Adults: A Retrospective Cohort Study
CONCLUSION: GAHT discontinuation is uncommon when therapy follows Endocrine Society guidelines. Future research should include prospective studies with long-term follow up of individuals receiving GAHT.PMID:37246711 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgad306

Comparison of serum progesterone levels on the day of frozen embryo transfers according to type of endometrial preparation: a single centre, retrospective study
This study aimed to determine whether the serum progesterone level on transfer day differed according to the endometrial preparation method for frozen embryo transfer (FET). Twenty spontaneous cycles (SC), 27 ovarian stimulation cycles (OS) and 65 artificial cycles (AC) were retrospectively studied from May to December 2019 in a single French hospital. The primary endpoint was the level of serum progesterone on the day of FET between the three endometrial preparation methods. The mean serum progesterone level on transfer day was 29.47 ng/ml in the OS group versus 20.03 ng/ml in the SC group and 14.32 ng/ml AC group (P <...
