Structure-function of DHEA binding proteins
Vitam Horm. 2023;123:587-617. doi: 10.1016/bs.vh.2022.12.002. Epub 2022 Dec 16.ABSTRACTDehydroepiandrosterone (3β-hydroxy-5-androsten-17-one, DHEA) and its sulfated metabolite DHEA-S are the most abundant circulating steroids and are precursors for active sex steroid hormones, estradiol and testosterone. DHEA has a broad range of reported effects in the central nervous system (CNS), cardiovascular system, adipose tissue, kidney, liver, and in the reproductive system. The mechanisms by which DHEA and DHEA-S initiate their biological effects are diverse. DHEA and DHEA-S may directly bind to plasma membrane (PM) receptors, i...

Effects of sex hormones on vascular reactivity in boys with hypospadias
CONCLUSION: In healthy boys, testosterone and 17β-estradiol promote a vasoconstrictor phenotype whereas in boys with hypospadias, these sex hormones reduce vasoconstriction, with androgens promoting vasorelaxation. Differences in baseline artery function may therefore be sex hormone independent and the impact of early-life variations in androgen exposure on vascular function needs further study.PMID:37672642 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgad525

Fabrication of 1-octane sulphonic acid modified nanoporous graphene with tuned hydrophilicity for decontamination of industrial wastewater from organic and inorganic contaminants
RSC Adv. 2023 Jul 20;13(32):21926-21944. doi: 10.1039/d3ra02602g. eCollection 2023 Jul 19.ABSTRACTThis research work is based on the fabrication of a graphene oxide-based composite (GOBC) to remove the maximum number of contaminants from different industrial effluents. The GO was first intercalated with 1-octanesulphonic acid sodium salt and subjected to microwave irradiation to produce GOBC. Fixed-bed column tests and Jar-tests were performed for removal of the most harmful endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) such as bisphenol A, bisphenol S, endosulphan, beta-estradiol, dyes (methylene blue and violate) and toxic metal...

Various microbial species present in the gut produce beneficial metabolites, such as butyrate, or harmful metabolites, such as isoamylamine, or can provoke chronic inflammation in a variety of ways. An individual can have a better or worse microbiome, assessing these and other fu...

To investigate the role of rutin on bisphenol-A induced female infertility in rats
CONCLUSION: The treatment of rutin is ameliorated the BA-associated female reproductive behaviours and biomarkers level. Hence, it may be useful to improve female reproductive health due to its potential multi-targeted actions like hormonal regulation, anti-oxidant, and anti-peroxidative actions.PMID:36573050 | DOI:10.2174/1386207326666221226142854

Maternal exposure of rats to sodium saccharin during gestation and lactation on male offspring
Biol Reprod. 2022 Oct 11:ioac190. doi: 10.1093/biolre/ioac190. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe investigated the effects of fetal programming in rats Sprague-Dawley through the maternal consumption of sodium saccharin on the testicular structure and function in male offspring. Feed intake and efficiency, organ and fat weight, quantification and expression of AR and PCNA proteins, sperm count, and hormone levels were determined. Consumption alterations were found in the final weeks of the experiment. Decreases in AR and PCNA expression and quantification, tubular diameter and luminal volume, and increases in epithelial and ...
