18FFDG PET-MRI provides survival biomarkers in primary central nervous system lymphoma in the elderly: an ancillary study from the BLOCAGE trial of the LOC network
CONCLUSION: Baseline cerebellar metabolism and sumMTV may predict response to end of chemotherapy in PCNSL. Tumor volume and MILAS at baseline are strong prognostic factors.PMID:37462774 | DOI:10.1007/s00259-023-06334-w

Intermittent fever and cough in a 56-year-old patient: Relapsing polychondritis and extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma
We report a case of a 56-year-old female subject presented as intermittent fever and cough, who was found obvious luminal stenosis and intense 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake in her larynx and trachea via bronchoscopy and FDG positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT). The auricular cartilage biopsy demonstrated chondritis. At first she was diagnosed as RP and treated by glucocorticoid and methotrexate, leading to completely response. Fever and cough recurred after 18 months, and FDG PET/CT were performed again and targeted a newfound nasopharyngeal lesion, where the biopsy proved to be an extranodal nat...

l-carvone decreases breast cancer cells adhesion, migration, and invasion by suppressing FAK activation
Chem Biol Interact. 2023 Apr 12:110480. doi: 10.1016/j.cbi.2023.110480. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBreast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in the world and current therapeutic strategies present severe drawbacks. l-carvone (CRV), a monoterpene found in Mentha spicata (spearmint), has been reported to have potent anti-inflammatory activity. Here, we examined the role of CRV in breast cancer cell adhesion, migration and invasion in vitro and how this component could suppress the growth of Ehrlich carcinoma-bearing mice. In vivo, treatment with CRV significantly decreased tumor growth, increased tumor necro...

Synthesis of Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks-8@ layered double hydroxide polyhedral nanocomposite with designed porous voids as an effective carrier for anti-cancer drug-controlled delivery
IET Nanobiotechnol. 2023 Apr 6. doi: 10.1049/nbt2.12125. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn nanotechnology, compounds containing metal materials are used in pharmaceutical sciences. The main purpose of this research was to introduce a novel method to control the amount of zeolite imidazolate framework (ZIF) in water by forming a protective layer such as layered double hydroxide (LDH). Firstly, ZIF was synthesised as the nucleus of the nanocomposite, and then LDH was formed by in situ synthesis as a protective layer. Scanning electron microscope, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-Ray Diffraction, and Brunauer, Emmett...

Protective effect of methotrexate on lung function and mortality in rheumatoid arthritis-related interstitial lung disease: a retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: We identified risk and protective factors for lung function decline and mortality in patients with RA-ILD. MTX use was associated with favorable outcome in terms of both lung function and mortality in our cohort.PMID:36346076 | DOI:10.1177/17534666221135314

Exploring the cellular uptake of hectorite clay mineral and its drug carrier capabilities
Colloids Surf B Biointerfaces. 2022 Oct 14;220:112931. doi: 10.1016/j.colsurfb.2022.112931. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn the last years, the use of clay minerals for pharmaceutical purposes has increased due to their interesting properties. Hectorite (Ht) is a clay belonging to the smectite group which has attracted attention for applications in biology, tissue engineering and as drug carrier and delivery system. However, the mechanisms involved in Ht cellular uptake and transport into cells, are still unclear. Herein, we used a labeled Ht (Ht/1Cl) to study both the cellular uptake, by confocal laser scanning microscop...

Polymyalgia Rheumatica and Giant Cell Arteritis: Rapid Evidence Review
Am Fam Physician. 2022 Oct;106(4):420-426.ABSTRACTPolymyalgia rheumatica and giant cell arteritis are inflammatory conditions that occur predominantly in people 50 years and older, with peak incidence at 70 to 75 years of age. Polymyalgia rheumatica is more common and typically presents with constitutional symptoms, proximal muscle pain, and elevated inflammatory markers. Diagnosis of polymyalgia rheumatica is clinical, consisting of at least two weeks of proximal muscle pain, constitutional symptoms, and elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate or C-reactive protein. Treatment of polymyalgia rheumatica includes moderate-do...
