Failure of Therapeutic Anticoagulation in COVID-19 Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke. A Retrospective Multicenter Study
ConclusionsThe occurrence of an anticoagulation failure seems to be increased in the setting of COVID-19 infection, with worse clinical outcomes if compared to non-COVID-19 related ischemic strokes. We discuss the diagnostic and therapeutic implications of such evidence, suggesting that some arterial thrombotic complications might be either resistant to or independent of the anticoagulation effect.

Ischemic stroke shortly after vaccination against SARS-CoV-2: A case-control study
Vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 has been associated with rare occurrences of severe venous thromboses. Very little data exist about arterial ischemic strokes. We have assessed the features of ischemic strokes occurring shortly after vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 in the Cremona area, Italy.

Risk of ischemic stroke in patients with COVID-19 infection: A systematic review and meta-analysis
This study systematically reviewed published studies and conducted meta-analysis to evaluate the association between the risk of ischemic stroke and COVID-19. This study was conducted according to guidelines from the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses. The protocol used in this study had been registered in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews. EMBASE, PubMed, Cochrane Library and Web of Science were searched from 1st December 2019-19th February 2021. This systematic review and meta-analysis analysed the combined effect estimations based on odds ratios (OR) with the ra...

Mechanical thrombectomy in acute ischemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion in the anterior circulation and low baseline National Institute of Health Stroke Scale score: a multicenter retrospective matched analysis
ConclusionsOur experience is in favor of a potential benefit of MT also in patients with LVO and a NIHSS score  ≤ 5 at the time of groin puncture. Nonetheless, this issue waits for a clear-cut recommendation in a dedicated clinical trial.

Multi-Center Randomized Phase II Clinical Trial on Remote Ischemic Conditioning in Acute Ischemic Stroke Within 9 Hours of Onset in Patients Ineligible to Recanalization Therapies (TRICS-9): Study Design and Protocol
Conclusion: RIC in combination with recanalization therapies appears to add no clinical benefit to patients, but whether it is beneficial to those that are not candidates for recanalization therapies is still to be demonstrated. TRICS-9 has been developed to elucidate this issue.Clinical Trial Registration:ClinicalTrials.gov, identifier: NCT04400981.

A Retrospective Study on Statins and Post-stroke Patients: What About Functional Outcome and Follow-Up in a Stroke Rehabilitation Cohort?
Conclusions: The use of statins does not seem to influence the functional outcome in post-stroke patients. However, they could exert a protective role against bone fractures during post-discharge follow-up, suggesting further evaluation on this topic.

Incidence, prevalence and disability associated with neurological disorders in Italy between 1990 and 2019: an analysis based on the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019
ConclusionsThe increase in YLDs associated with neurological conditions is mostly due to population ageing and growth: nevertheless, lived disability and, as a consequence, impact on health systems has increased. Actions are needed to improve outcome and mitigate disability associated with neurological conditions, spanning among diagnosis, treatment, care pathways and workplace interventions.

Risk models to predict late-onset seizures after stroke: A systematic review
CONCLUSION: The SeLECT model was the only model developed in line with proposed guidelines for appropriate model development. The model, which was externally validated in a very similar and homogeneous population, may need to be tested in a more racially/ethnic diverse and younger population; testing the SeLECT model, accounting for overall brain health is likely to improve the identification of high-risk patients for late post stroke seizures.PMID:34029995 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2021.108003
