Stroke recurrence and mortality in northeastern Greece: the Evros Stroke Registry
AbstractUp to date there is no population-based study from Greece providing long-term data on incidence of both all-cause mortality and stroke recurrence for patients with first ever stroke (FES). Adult patients with FES were registered during a 24-month period (2010 –2012) and followed-up for 12 months. We calculated cumulative incidences of stroke mortality and recurrence. Univariable and multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression analyses were used to identify independent determinants of 1-year mortality and 1-year stroke recurrence. We prospectivel y documented 703 first ever stroke cases (mean age 75 ± ...

Recognition of Cerebral Autosomal Dominant Arteriopathy with Subcortical Infarcts and Leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL) in Two Oligosymptomatic Sisters with Low CADASIL Scale Scores and a Venous Dysplasia: Report of a Novel Greek Family
Cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL) due to mutations of the NOTCH3 gene is the most common cause of inherited cerebral small-vessel disease and one of the genetic causes of migraine with aura. The so-called CADASIL scale has been proposed as a clinical screening tool, and a score of 15 or higher seems useful in identifying patients with high probability of carrying NOTCH3 mutations. We studied a novel Greek family with clinical features compatible with CADASIL.

HELIAD study: Dementia prevalence in Greece (P3.095)
Conclusions:The prevalence of dementia and its subtypes in Greece is similar or at the lower range of that reported in many other European countries and globally. In our sample, increased age and decreased level of education status, but not gender, were predictive of a diagnosis of dementia with age being the strongest predictive factor.Study Supported by:Funding/Support: IIRG-09-133014 from the Alzheimer’s Association; 189 10276/8/9/2011 from the ESPA-EU program Excellence Grant (ARISTEIA) which is co-funded by the European Social Fund and Greek National resources; and Y2β/o.51657/14.4.2009 from the Ministry fo...

The FGA Thr312Ala polymorphism and risk of intracerebral haemorrhage in Polish and Greek populations.
CONCLUSIONS: The FGA Thr312Ala polymorphism affects a risk for ICH in the Polish but not in the Greek population. An advanced meta-analysis of well-designed studies with a significant number of cases might provide useful information of novel polymorphisms, including the FGA Thr312Ala polymorphism, and their role in ICH pathology.
