The 20 years transition of clinical characteristics and metabolic risk factors in primary liver cancer patients from China
CONCLUSIONS: It was gradually increased that age, the proportion of females, non-viral hepatitis-related causes, AFP-negative, and abnormal glucose/lipids among PLC patients. Proper control of glucose/lipids or ALT may improve the prognosis of PLCs.PMID:36998463 | PMC:PMC10043326 | DOI:10.3389/fonc.2023.1109980

Thymosin alpha 1 - Reimagine its broader applications in the immuno-oncology era
Int Immunopharmacol. 2023 Mar 3;117:109952. doi: 10.1016/j.intimp.2023.109952. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThymosin alpha 1 (Tα1) is a highly conserved 28 amino-acid peptide naturally occurring in the thymus and plays critical roles in T cell maturity and differentiation. Its synthetic form, thymalfasin, has been approved by various regulatory agencies in the treatment of hepatitis B viral infection and as an enhancer of vaccine response in immune-compromised populations. In China, it has also widely utilized in patients with cancer and severe infections, as well as the emergency use during (Severe Acute Respiratory Syn...

Up-to-Date Colonoscopy Use in Asian and Hispanic Subgroups in New York City, 2003-2016
CONCLUSIONS: We found significant variation in colonoscopy uptake among Asian and Hispanic subgroups. We also identified numerous demographic, socioeconomic, and health-related predictors of colonoscopy uptake. These findings highlight the importance of examining health disparities through the lens of disaggregated racial/ethnic subgroups and have the potential to inform future public health interventions.PMID:36753456 | DOI:10.1097/MCG.0000000000001835

Various microbial species present in the gut produce beneficial metabolites, such as butyrate, or harmful metabolites, such as isoamylamine, or can provoke chronic inflammation in a variety of ways. An individual can have a better or worse microbiome, assessing these and other fu...

Knowledge, attitude, and perception regarding HPV-related diseases and vaccination among the general public in Guizhou Province of China
CONCLUSION: Guizhou residents had poor knowledge of HPV-related issues. The percentage of healthcare workers who achieved acceptable knowledge levels was one-half or less. The increasing HPV prevalence and cervical cancer incidence can be contained if more affordable vaccines are developed and the low knowledge levels pervading young adults and medical staff is eliminated.PMID:36610933 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2022.12.027
