Bullous cellulitis as an extraordinary manifestation of a Vibrio cholerae O1 Ogawa infection
We describe a case of a 63-year-old Chinese woman with multiple medical comorbidities on corticosteroid therapy who developed fever and a painful swelling on her left leg after being pricked by a branch while gardening. There was no abdominal pain, vomiting or diarrhea. A diagnosis of bullous cellulitis was made clinically, and blood was sent for bacteriological culture. A beta-hemolytic commashaped gram-negative bacillus was isolated from the blood. It was also oxidase-positive and produced an acid/alkaline (A/K) reaction on triple sugar iron agar. It was identified biochemically as Vibrio cholerae. After additional testi...

Molecular pathology and clinical treatment of independent HPV primary serous carcinoma of the uterine cervix (USCC): A case report
1. Procedure for diagnosis HPV-independent adenocarcinomas of the uterine cervix. 2. Procedure for treating HPV-independent adenocarcinomas of the uterine cervix. AbstractOn October 23, 2020, a 69-year-old Chinese female patient was admitted to Yuncheng Hospital due to a history of postmenopausal bleeding and lower abdominal pain for 5 months. The HPV test and pathology results indicated the presence of independent HPV in primary serous carcinoma of the uterine cervix. The genetic testing identified variants of uncertain significance (PAX8 p.Tyr 410 Ter and TP53 p.Asn 247 Ile), microsatellite instability stable (MSI-S), tu...

Active versus passive distraction for reducing procedural pain and anxiety in children: a meta-analysis and systematic review
ConclusionsExisting evidence suggests that active distraction may be more effective in reducing operational pain and anxiety in children than passive distraction. More studies on the effects of active distraction versus passive distraction in children with larger sample size are needed in the future.

Myofascial acupuncture versus routine acupuncture for mechanical neck pain: a protocol for a multicentre randomised controlled trial
Introduction Mechanical neck pain (MNP) is defined as pain in the area of the neck and/or neck-shoulder provoked by body mechanics and which adversely affects physical, psychological and social function. The treatments for MNP are limited. Previous studies and clinical experience have indicated that myofascial acupuncture might be a better treatment option for MNP, but the efficacy is controversial. Therefore, our aim is to compare the efficacy of myofascial acupuncture and routine acupuncture for MNP. Methods and analysis The study is a multicentre, prospective randomised clinical trial. Patients will be recruited from f...

Hosimosines A-E, structurally diverse cytisine derivatives from the seeds of Ormosia hosiei Hemsl. et Wils
Fitoterapia. 2023 Aug 28:105661. doi: 10.1016/j.fitote.2023.105661. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOrmosia hosiei Hemsl. et Wils (Fabaceae family) is an arbor species endemic to China. The seeds of O. hosiei have been used as traditional Chinese medicine to treat hernia, abdominal pain, blood stasis and amenorrhea. Cytisine-like and angustifoline type alkaloids were main components identified from this plant. In our research on the bioactive alkaloids from the promising Chinese medicinal plants, four new angustifoline type alkaloids (1-4) and a new cytisine-like alkaloid (5), named hosimosine A-E, together with 13 known ana...

A comparison of radiographic degeneration features of older Chinese women and older Italian Caucasian women with a focus on thoracic spine
CONCLUSION: For the first time, this study documented a lower prevalence of a number of thoracic spine degeneration features among Chinese. This study further affirms the concept of a generally healthier spine in older Chinese relative to older Caucasians. The observed differences may reflect a foundational background influence of genetic predisposition that represents an important line of future research.PMID:37646923 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-023-02537-1

Evaluation of the correlation between depression and physical activity among older persons with osteoporosis: a cross-sectional study
ConclusionWe found that depression was negatively correlated with physical activity in older persons with osteoporosis in China. This means that the less physical activity there is, the more serious the depression status and having depression may result in reduced physical activity in older persons with osteoporosis. To better help older persons with osteoporosis, medical staff should give more attention to influencing factors of depression and physical activity.
