Reversal of dual epigenetic repression of non-canonical Wnt-5a normalises diabetic corneal epithelial wound healing and stem cells
Conclusions/interpretationWe provide the first account of epigenetic changes in diabetic corneas including dual inhibition ofWNT5A by DNA methylation and miRNA action. Overall, Wnt-5a is a new corneal epithelial wound healing stimulator that can be targeted to improve wound healing and stem cells in the diabetic cornea.Data availabilityThe DNA methylation dataset is available from the public GEO repository under accession no. GSE229328 (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/geo/query/acc.cgi?acc=GSE229328).Graphical Abstract

GSE236523 CD44 is required for coupling autophagy decline and aging in the vascular endothelium
Contributors : Lu Zhang ; Peichang YangSeries Type : Expression profiling by arrayOrganism : Homo sapiensThe decline of endothelial autophagy is closely related to vascular senescence and the development of diseases; however, little is known about the molecular mechanism by which autophagy decline is associated with aging in vascular endothelial cells (VECs). Here we identify a crucial role for CD44, a multifunctional adhesion molecule that has been implicated as a cancer stem cell marker in several cancers, in controlling autophagy and aging in VECs. CD44 intercellular domain (CD44ICD) negatively regulates autophagy via a...

New and future therapies: Changes in the therapeutic armamentarium for SLE
Best Pract Res Clin Rheumatol. 2023 Aug 24:101865. doi: 10.1016/j.berh.2023.101865. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFollowing better understanding of molecular pathways involved in the pathogenesis of Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), pharmaceutical companies have been investigating new targeted drugs for SLE. The purpose of this scoping review is to provide an updated view of the most promising targeted therapies currently in clinical development or recently approved for SLE treatment as well as of the most promising potential future therapeutic strategies in SLE. In the past several years, two new drugs have been develop...

Environmental-relevant bisphenol A exposure promotes ovarian cancer stemness by regulating microRNA biogenesis
J Cell Mol Med. 2023 Aug 23. doi: 10.1111/jcmm.17920. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBisphenol A (BPA) is a ubiquitous environmental xenobiotic impacting millions of people worldwide. BPA has long been proposed to promote ovarian carcinogenesis, but the detrimental mechanistic target remains unclear. Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are considered as the trigger of tumour initiation and progression. Here, we show for the first time that nanomolar (environmentally relevant) concentration of BPA can markedly increase the formation and expansion of ovarian CSCs concomitant. This effect is observed in both oestrogen receptor (ER)-posit...

Extracellular Vesicles and Ischemic Cardiovascular Diseases
Adv Exp Med Biol. 2023;1418:57-68. doi: 10.1007/978-981-99-1443-2_4.ABSTRACTCharacterized by coronary artery obstruction or stenosis, ischemic cardiovascular diseases as advanced stages of coronary heart diseases commonly lead to left ventricular aneurysm, ventricular septal defect, and mitral insufficiency. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) secreted by diverse cells in the body exert roles in cell-cell interactions and intrinsic cellular regulations. With a lipid double-layer membrane and biological components such as DNA, protein, mRNA, microRNAs (miRNA), and siRNA inside, the EVs function as paracrine signaling for the patho...

HMOX1 Participates in Pre-Eclampsia by Regulating the Proliferation, Apoptosis, and Angiogenesis Modulation Potential of Mesenchymal Stem Cells via VEGF
Biochem Genet. 2023 Aug 12. doi: 10.1007/s10528-023-10474-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are involved in the pathogenesis of pre-eclampsia (PE). Heme oxygenase (HMOX) protects against placental cytotoxic injuries associated with PE. Here, we aimed to clarify the roles of HMOX1 in MSC proliferation and apoptosis, trophoblast cell migration, and regulation of angiogenesis, and assess its involvement in the pathogenesis of PE. HMOX1 and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression levels in decidual tissues and decidua-derived MSCs (dMSCs) of healthy pregnant women and patients with PE ...

Exosomal lnc-CDHR derived from human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells attenuates peritoneal epithelial-mesenchymal transition through AKT/FOXO pathway
CONCLUSIONS: Exosomal lnc-CDHR derived from hUMSCs may competitively bind to miR-3149 to regulate suppression on target PTEN genes and alleviate EMT of HMrSV5 through AKT/FOXO pathway.PMID:37466443 | DOI:10.18632/aging.204883
