Analysis of brain perfusion single-photon emission tomography images using an easy Zscore imaging system for early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease
CONCLUSION: The analysis of brain perfusion SPECT using an eZIS program can be useful for early diagnosis of AD.PMID:34308862 | DOI:10.12122/j.issn.1673-4254.2021.07.19

A multi-modality medical imaging head and neck phantom: Part 1. Design and fabrication
Phys Med. 2022 Feb 19:S1120-1797(22)01422-3. doi: 10.1016/j.ejmp.2022.02.010. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA novel anthropomorphic head and neck phantom which features the emulation of blood flow and perfusion is proposed. The phantom is helpful in both education and research and contains major blood vessels and a porous silicone elastomer brain compartment with microvascular capillary flow. The porous brain compartment is fabricated by use of a novel cast-moulding-dissolution technique. The skull and vertebra are fabricated by a combination of 3D printing and cast-moulding and are tissue equivalent with CT numbers rangin...

TACTICS - Trial of Advanced CT Imaging and Combined Education Support for Drip and Ship: evaluating the effectiveness of an 'implementation intervention in providing better patient access to reperfusion therapies: protocol for a non-randomised controlled stepped wedge cluster trial in acute stroke
Introduction Stroke reperfusion therapies, comprising intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) and/or endovascular thrombectomy (EVT), are best practice treatments for eligible acute ischemic stroke patients. In Australia, EVT is provided at few, mainly metropolitan, comprehensive stroke centres (CSC). There are significant challenges for Australia’s rural and remote populations in accessing EVT, but improved access can be facilitated by a ‘drip and ship’ approach. TACTICS (Trial of Advanced CT Imaging and Combined Education Support for Drip and Ship) aims to test whether a multicomponent, multidisciplinary impleme...

Predictors of Recovery of Allocentric and Egocentric Neglect: The Role of Education (P7.288)
CONCLUSIONS: Recovery of both variants of neglect was positively influenced by higher education and lower initial severity of specific type of neglect, independently of volume of infarct, volume of hypoperfusion, age, and time post-onset of stroke.Study Supported by: R01NS047691Disclosure: Dr. Posner has nothing to disclose. Acute respiratory distress syndrome following intralipid emulsion therapy
2.5 out of 5 stars Acute respiratory distress syndrome following verapamil overdose treated with intravenous lipid emulsion; A rare life-threatening complication. Martin C et al.  Ann Fr Anesth Reanim 2014 [Epub ahead of print] Reference This interesting French case report is a textbook example of how not to use intralipid emulsion therapy (ILE) in calcium-channel-block (CCB) overdose. It describes a 51-year-old woman who present to the emergency room 8 hours after ingesting forty 240 mg verapamil, a total of 9.6 grams. She was hypotensive and bradycardic, although alert and oriented. Initial echocardiography showed goo...

The 100 most cited publications in cardiac surgery: a bibliometric analysis
Conclusion Despite the potential flaws with bibliometric analysis, and its application to cardiac surgery, there is inherent merit in an analysis of this type.

Extracorporeal blood therapy in sepsis and acute respiratory distress syndrome: the "purifying dream".
CONCLUSIONS: It is not now to conclude that EBP intervention can purify septic or ARDS patients with high clinical efficacy from current experimental and clinical practice. Prospective, randomized controlled, and well-designed clinical or experimental studies and most suitable EBP modalities should be further developed. PMID: 25533831 [PubMed - in process]

Clinical role of Fluorescence Imaging in Colorectal Surgery - A Review.
Authors: Mizrahi I, Wexner SD Abstract Introduction Anastomotic leak (AL) after colorectal surgery is a devastating complication; decreased blood perfusion is an important risk factor. Surgeons rely on subjective measures to assess bowel perfusion. Fluorescence imaging (FI) with indocyanine green (ICG) provides a real-time objective assessment of intestinal perfusion. Areas Covered A Pubmed search using the terms 'fluorescence imaging', 'indocyanine green', 'colon and rectal surgery' was undertaken. Sixteen articles between 2010 to present were identified. Main outcomes were leak rate reduction, change in surgical ...

Extraction of the 3D Local Orientation of Myocytes in Human Cardiac Tissue Using X-ray Phase-Contrast Micro-Tomography and Multi-Scale Analysis
Cardiovascular diseases remain one of today ’s most serious health problems, which motivates the search for a deeper understanding of myocardial function. The relation between mechanical function, hemodynamics, perfusion, diffusion, transfer rate and the adaptive structural changes emerging in cardiac diseases remain poorly understood. In a ddition, a better understanding of the anatomy of 3D tissue would be a great help to further the understanding of cardiac pathophysiology. This would require producing a 3D multi-scale atlas of the human heart from the cell level to that of the organ, unavailable today.

WA Lawmakers Ask University to Stop Training Paramedics on Live Pigs
It's a procedure in which paramedics cut into a person's neck to create an emergency airway. And, at the University of Washington, prospective paramedics learn to do it on live pigs. Now some Washington lawmakers want to end to that practice.   Paramedics don’t need to cut open the throat of a pig when they have other options,” Rep. Sherry Appleton, D-Poulsbo, said. “I would like to see the university take responsibility and to search out different ways to solve these situations.   "It seems to me that we need to be more considerate.”   Appleton is one of eight members of the House who signed a ...
