Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension Medical Management
Methodist Debakey Cardiovasc J. 2021 Jul 1;17(2):e29-e33. doi: 10.14797/ICHN7633. eCollection 2021.ABSTRACTChronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is a common long-term complication of pulmonary embolism characterized by thromboembolic obstruction of the pulmonary arteries, vascular arteriopathy, vascular remodeling, and ultimately pulmonary hypertension (PH). Although pulmonary endarterectomy (PEA) surgery is the standard of care, approximately 40% of patients in the international CTEPH registry were deemed inoperable. In addition to lifelong anticoagulation, the cornerstone of PH-specific medical management...

Automated deep learning in ophthalmology: AI that can build AI
Purpose of review The purpose of this review is to describe the current status of automated deep learning in healthcare and to explore and detail the development of these models using commercially available platforms. We highlight key studies demonstrating the effectiveness of this technique and discuss current challenges and future directions of automated deep learning. Recent findings There are several commercially available automated deep learning platforms. Although specific features differ between platforms, they utilise the common approach of supervised learning. Ophthalmology is an exemplar speciality in ...

What is PAN?
Discussion Vasculitis is an inflammation of the blood vessels. Often, the term implies the arterial vessels, but venous and capillary vessels can be affected. The nomenclature to describe vasculitis and its classification have varied over time. Arterial vessel size is one method and some more common entities include: Small vessel, mainly Granulomatous – granulomatosis with polyangiitis (aka Wegener’s granulomatosis), eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (aka Churg Strauss syndrome) Nongranulomatous – Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP), microscopic polyangiitis Medium vessel, mainly Childhood sys...

Finite Element Analysis in Asymptomatic, Symptomatic, and Ruptured Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms: In Search of New Rupture Risk Predictors.
CONCLUSIONS: From different FEA derived parameters, PWRI distinguishes most precisely between asymptomatic and symptomatic AAA. If elevated, this value may represent a negative prognostic factor for asymptomatic AAAs. PMID: 25542592 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

There’s an App for That: Creating a Coronary CT Angiography Learning Module for the iPad
Computer technology plays a prominent role in radiology education. Electronic learning (e-learning) resources are increasing in popularity as education shifts toward a learner-centered model. One modern type of computing platform is the tablet, a mobile lightweight computer with a touchscreen display. The most popular tablet to date, the iPad (Apple, Cupertino, California), has been shown to improve access to educational resources among radiology residents who own the device [1]. We therefore chose the iPad to develop our educational software.

Impact of Education-based HEART Score Pathway on Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography Utilization and Yield in the Emergency Department
Conclusions: There was no significant change in the CCTA utilization or yield after the implementation of an education-based HEART pathway in a large academic center. Our findings suggest adopting a more comprehensive approach for deploying such evidence-based protocols to increase institutional compliance.
