Effect of Different Anesthetic Techniques on Cytokine Gene Expression in Patients who Underwent Elective Cesarean Section
This study was designed to compare the modulation of genes whose expression level is indicative of the immune system following exposure to GA and SA. The present study was performed on 40 women who were scheduled for elective CS receiving GA or SA. The expression levels of the relative mRNA of Interleukin (IL)-4, IL-6, IL-10, IL-17, Interferon (IFN)-γ, and tumor growth factor (TGF)-β before anesthesia (T0) and 24 hours post-anesthesia (T1) were analyzed by real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) technique. Twenty-four hours post-anesthesia, the expression levels of IL-10, IL-17, and IFN-γ genes were decreased while...

Fibroblast Growth Factor 2 Augments Transforming Growth Factor Beta 1 Induced Epithelial-mesenchymal Transition in Lung Cell Culture Model
This study suggests a synergistic effect between TGFβ1 and FGF2 in inducing EMT in lung epithelial cells, which may play an important role in wound healing and tissue repair after injury.PMID:33463102 | DOI:10.18502/ijaai.v19i4.4110

Association of spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea with transverse venous sinus stenosis: a retrospective matched case ‐control study
ConclusionIn this retrospective study, sCSF leaks were strongly associated with VSS. This novel finding provides a rationale for further investigation of the role of VSS in the onset of sCSF leaks and of the potential interest in venous stenting after the surgical repair of leaks.

Eosinophils in Eosinophilic Esophagitis: The Road to Fibrostenosis is Paved With Good Intentions
Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is an antigen-driven disease associated with epithelial barrier dysfunction and chronic type 2 inflammation. Eosinophils are the defining feature of EoE histopathology but relatively little is known about their role in disease onset and progression. Classically defined as destructive, end-stage effector cells, eosinophils (a resident leukocyte in most of the GI tract) are increasingly understood to play roles in local immunity, tissue homeostasis, remodeling, and repair. Indeed, asymptomatic esophageal eosinophilia is observed in IgE-mediated food allergy. Interestingly, EoE is a potential co...

Quantitative determination of the optimal temporoparietal fascia flap necessary to repair skull ‐base defects
ConclusionThe TPFF is a versatile alternative to the nasoseptal flap and a height of at least 12 cm can provide enough coverage for all ventral skull base defects.

M005 tpn hypersensitivity causing recurrent urticaria in a premature neonate with gastroschisis
Total parenteral nutrition (TPN) is an often-critical intervention for patients at risk of life-threatening malnutrition. While multiple side-effects are known with TPN, hypersensitivity reactions are rare.

Assessing permeability biomarkers of dual responders in allergic asthmatics
Approximately 50% of subjects with allergic asthma experience an early and a late allergic reaction following allergen provocation and are termed ‘dual responders’ (DR). Those who only experience an early reaction are termed ‘single responders’ (SR), however, there are no standardized tests that can predict whether a patient is a SR or a DR. Therefore, we aimed to compare biomarkers from SR and DR. Lung physiology, FeNO (at 50, 100, 200 and 300 ml/s), bronchial lavage (BL), bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), plasma and biopsies were collected at baseline and 23 hours after provocation from 19 SR and 15 D...
