Ivacaftor improves rhinologic, psychologic, and sleep ‐related quality of life in G551D cystic fibrosis patients
ConclusionIvacaftor improves QOL in the R, P, and S domains in G551D CF patients, although QOL instruments validated for CRS may not translate well to CF CRS patients because symptom burden was surprisingly low.

Usefulness of portable spirometry in addition to clinical asthma control score (C-ACT) in atopic children before performing an oral food challenge.
Conclusion: We found no systematic association between spirometry and C-ACT before performing OFC. These results imply that both tests may be additional in assessing asthma control. C-ACT may reflect control for the previous month, when spirometry is more informative on the control of asthma the day of OFC.

Assessment of Efficacy Omalizumab Retreatment in Patients With Severe Asthma
This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of retreatment on relapsed disease. Methods: Patients who were treated with omalizumab at least two years at first treatment and also retreated at least one year were included to study. Patients with adverse effect causing treatment discontinuation at first treatment were excluded. Social demographic data, laboratory findings, pulmonary function tests and adverse effects during retreatment were recorded. Results: 12 patients were included to the study. There was 8 female and mean age of patients was 57,4 ± 11,9 years. Most popular reason to stop omalizumab treatment was patien...

Tiotropium Attenuates Refractory Cough and Capsaicin Cough Reflex Sensitivity in Patients with Asthma
ConclusionTiotropium may alleviate asthmatic cough refractory to ICS/LABA by modulating cough reflex sensitivity but not through bronchodilation.

Effect of Endoscopic Sinus Surgery on Bronchiectasis Patients With Chronic Rhinosinusitis.
Conclusion ESS is effective in improving long-term sinonasal outcomes in bronchiectasis patients with CRS. However, ESS does not appear to improve the pulmonary function. PMID: 30112923 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

High Prevalence of Asthma in Elderly Women: Findings From a Korean National Health Database and Adult Asthma Cohort.
CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of asthma in Korea is consistently high among elderly and female populations. These results should lay the foundation for strategies for effective asthma prevention and management; elderly female patients with asthma should receive particular attention. PMID: 29949835 [PubMed]

Fecal microbiota profile in atopic asthmatic adult patients.
Conclusion. Atopic asthma is significantly associated with gut microbiota Lactobacilli and E. coli. It is important to determine the organism involved, to focus on microbiome-driven disease and therapies. PMID: 29479926 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

High-Quality Pediatric Spirometry Via Telemedicine
Spirometry is an important component of pediatric asthma care. Rural areas are challenged with lack of skilled pediatric pulmonary function test laboratories and often patients need to travel long distances to tertiary care centers. We developed a telemedicine model to address this healthcare need.

Correlation between plasma levels of IL-33 and Vitamin D in patients with severe uncontrolled allergic asthma
Introduction: Recently epidemiological studies showed that vitamin D insufficiency is associated with airway obstruction and low lung function in patients with allergic asthma.Aim of study: We investigated whether low vitamin D is linked with circulating IL-33 in 14 patients and how reflects of pulmonary function in severe uncontrolled allergic asthma.Materials and Methods: The study included 14 patients with severe uncontrolled allergic asthma. In each of them were measured plasma levels of IL-33 by the ELISA method and Vitamin D. The pulmonary function is measured by basic spirometry parameters, FEV1. The results were st...
