Successful Treatment for Alpha Gal Mammal Product Allergy Using Auricular Acupuncture: A Case Series
Conclusion: The SAAT method showed effectiveness in the large majority of patients. No adverse reactions were noted as a result of auricular acupuncture. This alternative medicine approach to AGS management should be further studied in prospective trials with laboratory confirmation both before and after the procedure. This low-risk treatment shows promise in treating a medical condition that causes distress in an increasing number of patients.PMID:35003502 | PMC:PMC8729907 | DOI:10.1089/acu.2021.0010

An overview of the current state of food desensitization
Purpose of review To highlight the current evidence on food desensitization in children with food allergy. Recent findings Food Allergen Specific Immunotherapy (FA-AIT) is currently recognised as a treatment option for treating children with allergy at least to the main common foods (i.e. milk, egg and peanut). The oral route of administration has been proven to be the most effective in achieving desensitisation. Efforts are devoted to overcome the current unmet needs mainly related to safety issues and long-term efficacy, as well as adherence to the treatment and improvement of health-related quality of life. I...

An Integrative Medicine Review of Primary Prevention of Allergy in Pediatrics
Complement Ther Med. 2021 Feb 23:102695. doi: 10.1016/j.ctim.2021.102695. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe prevalence of allergic disease has been rapidly increasing in the developed world for over fifty years. The prevention of allergic disease remains one of the most elusive topics in medicine. Integrative medicine emphasizes prevention of disease and utilizes many interventions to help modify long-term outcomes of health. Primary prevention refers to the arrest of manifestations of a disease before they present clinically. Preventing allergy is not simply about preventing sensitization, but also about developing tolera...

Persons with allergy symptoms use alternative medicine more often.
CONCLUSIONS: The occurrence of allergic diseases and asthma influences the frequency of alternative medicine use. However the frequency of alternative medicine use does not depend on allergic disease or asthma being confirmed by a doctor. PMID: 27672066 [PubMed - in process]

Alternative treatments for chronic spontaneous urticaria beyond the guideline algorithm
Purpose of review: The international EAACI/GA2LEN/EDF/WAO guideline suggests a stepwise approach for the therapeutic management of chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU), outlined in an algorithm. The aim of this article is to summarize and review the evidence available on alternative treatment options for CSU outside of this algorithm. Recent findings: Although CSU is a common disease, there are a limited number of high-quality studies, and only antihistamines and omalizumab are licensed for its treatment. Most studies regarding alternative therapies for CSU show methodological limitations and a high risk of bias. For many ...

Atopic dermatitis: addressing allergy, infection, itch and complementary therapies.
Authors: Ahluwalia J, Davis DM, Jacob S, Waldman A, Ong PY, Cohen S, Friedman A, Lio P, Jetter N, Bienstock J, LeBovidge J, Spergel J, Fonacier L Abstract Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a complex condition that results from the dynamic interplay between genetic predisposition, skin barrier defects, environmental factors, and a dysfunctional immune system. As a result, AD can be complicated by irritant and allergic contact dermatitis and imbalances in the skin microbiome, which can subsequently exacerbate the severity and complicate the course of preexisting atopic disease. Itch is an important symptom of AD, as it plays...
