tool of nutrition education for allergic to egg and cow's milk protein in pediatric age®
Conclusions: Due to the importance of nutrition in childhood and acquires the underlying difficulties this group, to properly plan the diet is very important as it can prevent accidents and long-term nutritional deficiencies. Therefore provide graphical tools and practices to this goal, is importance for population and medical and scientific community, and is the result of this work. Prenatal and/or Breastfeeding Food Exposures and Risk of Food Allergies in the Offspring
Abstract The prevalence of food allergies is increasing in westernized societies. Allergen sensitization has been shown to occur very early in childhood, although the exact timing of sensitization is still under investigation. In recent years, studies have shown that the effect of consumption of peanuts during pregnancy could vary depending on mothers’ allergic status. For example, in high-risk mothers (with a background of atopy/food allergies), peanut consumption likely increases peanut allergy risk in offspring. Although several clinical studies have suggested that breastfeeding reduces food allergy, recent s...

Anti-allergic effect of Aster yomena on ovalbumin-sensitized mouse and RHL-2H3 cells via Th1/Th2 cytokine balance
In this study, we investigated the anti-allergic effects of AY and isoquercitrin, a functional compound of AY, using a mouse allergy model and cells. In mice with ovalbumin (OVA)-induced allergic rhinitis, oral administration of AY or isoquercitrin reduced secretion of IgE and histamine in the plasma. AY or isoquercitrin regulated both Th1 and Th2 cytokines levels in the plasma. In addition, AY and isoquercitrin showed dose-dependent inhibition of β-hexosaminidase and reduction in mRNA levels of Th2 cytokines in RBL-2H3 cells. Thus, our results demonstrate that AY or isoquercitrin suppresses cytokine production of the all...

Maternal and early-life vitamin D deficiency enhances allergic reaction in an ovalbumin-sensitized BALB/c mouse model.
Conclusions: Maternal and early-life vitamin D deficiency have notable influence on the susceptibility to food allergy, which may relate with the reduced population of Treg cell and the dysfunction of intestinal epithelial barrier. PMID: 29881333 [PubMed]

Inhibitory effects of quail egg on mast cells degranulation by suppressing PAR2-mediated MAPK and NF-kB activation.
Conclusion: As confirmed by PCA and HMC-1 cell-based immunology assay, QE albumen and QE yolk may work together through exerting anti-allergy activity and can be used as a potential anti-allergic nutrient in the future. PMID: 30083085 [PubMed]

Lactose Intolerance: Common Misunderstandings
Lactose intolerance primarily refers to a syndrome having different symptoms upon the consumption of foods containing lactose. It is one of the most common form of food intolerance and occurs when lactase activity is reduced in the brush border of the small bowel mucosa. Individuals may be lactose intolerant to varying degrees, depending on the severity of these symptoms. When lactose is not digested, it can be fermented by gut microbiota leading to symptoms of lactose intolerance that include abdominal pain, bloating, flatulence, and diarrhea with a considerable intraindividual and interindividual variability in the sever...

Novel allergens from ancient foods: Man e 5 from manioc (Manihot esculenta Crantz) cross reacts with Hev b 5 from latex
ConclusionMan e5, the first purified allergen from manioc demonstrates IgE cross‐reactivity with Hev b 5. Data suggest Hev b 5 might act as primary sensitizer and could therefore lead to allergic manifestations upon manioc consumption without prior exposition.

Malnutrition in children with food allergies in the UK
ConclusionsThe present study demonstrates that children with food allergies are more underweight than the general UK population, which appears to be linked to the number of foods excluded. However, the impact of the disease process itself should not be disregarded. Additionally, obesity can also occur in this population despite dietary elimination.

Identification of thaumatin‐like protein and aspartyl protease as new major allergens in lettuce (Lactuca sativa)
ConclusionTwo new major lettuce allergens—a thaumatin‐like protein and an aspartyl protease—have been identified and characterized. These allergens may be used to improve both diagnosis and treatment of lettuce‐allergic patients.

Vig r 6, the cytokinin‐specific binding protein from mung bean (Vigna radiata) sprouts, cross‐reacts with Bet v 1‐related allergens and binds IgE from birch pollen allergic patients’ sera
ConclusionWe demonstrated IgE cross‐reactivity despite low sequence identity between Vig r 6 and other Bet v 1‐related allergens. Thus, IgE binding to Vig r 6 may contribute to birch pollinosis‐associated mung bean sprout allergy.

Prenatal folic acid and risk of asthma in children: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings do not support an association between periconceptional folic acid supplementation and increased risk of asthma in children. However, because of limited number and types of studies in the literature, additional research is needed. PMID: 24004895 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Effect of heat processing on antibody reactivity to allergen variants and fragments of black tiger prawn: A comprehensive allergenomic approach
ConclusionSeven allergenic proteins are present in prawns, which are mostly heat‐stable and form dimers or oligomers. Thermal treatment enhanced antibody reactivity to prawn allergens as well as fragments and should be considered in the diagnosis of prawn allergy and detection of crustacean allergens in processed food.

Knowledge of café and restaurant managers to provide a safe meal to food allergic consumers
ConclusionsFood allergy knowledge of food establishment managers may compromise the safety of food allergic customers. Positive benefits of voluntary manager training are evident. For robust consumer protection, it is suggested that training be incorporated into the registration requirements for food establishments.

Nutritional adequacy of goat milk infant formulas for term infants: a double-blind randomised controlled trial.
Abstract The safety and nutritional adequacy of goat milk infant formulas have been questioned. The primary aim of the present study was to compare the growth and nutritional status of infants fed a goat milk infant formula with those of infants fed a typical whey-based cow milk infant formula. The secondary aim was to examine a range of health- and allergy-related outcomes. A double-blind, randomised controlled trial with 200 formula-fed term infants randomly assigned to receive either goat or cow milk formula from 2 weeks to at least 4 months of age was conducted. A cohort of 101 breast-fed infants was included ...
