Effect of dietary consumption as a modifier on the association between FTO gene variants and excess body weight in children from an admixed population in Brazil: the Social Changes, Asthma and Allergy in Latin America (SCAALA) cohort study.
This study evaluated the association between SNP in the FTO gene and excess weight in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. In addition, the effect of diet as a modifier on this association was also investigated. This cross-sectional study included 1191 participants aged 4-11 years, who were genotyped for 400 variants of the FTO gene. Food Sensitivity Versus Food Allergy
Food allergies and food intolerances affect approximately 1% of the adult population in the United States and approximately 7% of children. Often, children lose their food intolerances as they mature. Food allergies and intolerances differ in that a food allergy involves the immune system, whereas food intolerance is restricted to the gastrointestinal tract. Lactose intolerance is an example of the latter, whereas gluten-induced enteropathy is an example of the former. Treatment of both is similar: exclusion of the troublesome food component.

These cellular changes are orchestrated by the activity of moDCs promoting the expression PD‐L1 that will participate in the regulatory response. Oral administration of a mixture of probiotics protects against food allergy via induction of CD103+ dendritic cells and modulates the intestinal microbiota
In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of a mixture of probiotics on food allergy in an ovalbumin (OVA)-induced murine model. Treatment with the probiotics attenuated OVA-induced allergic symptoms in mice. CONCLUSIONS: CMPA should be kept in mind for well-appearing preterm and full-term infants suspected of necrotizing enterocolitis and gastroenteritis, respectively, presenting with bloody stool and eosinophilia. The use of OFC can be implemented since neonates were very well monitored in the neonatal intensive care unit.
