Congestive Heart Failure at the Department of Medicine: Demographic and Clinical Characteristics
CONCLUSIONS: HFrEF/HFpEF patients differed by demographics and co-morbidities. They were equally represented among patients admitted to medical wards and had similar prognosis. For both diagnoses, hospitalization should be considered for updating therapeutic regimens, especially with SGLT2 inhibitors.PMID:37698314

Current advances and emerging trends in sustainable polyhydroxyalkanoate modification from organic waste streams for material applications
This study focuses on the development of sustainable, efficient, and cutting-edge methods, such as advanced bioprocess engineering, novel catalysts, and advances in materials science. Chemical techniques, such as epoxidation, oxidation, and esterification, have been employed for PHA functionalization, while enzymatic and microbial methods have indicated promise. PHB/polylactic acid blends with cellulose fibers showed improved tensile strength by 24.45-32.08 % and decreased water vapor and oxygen transmission rates while PHB/Polycaprolactone blends with a 1:1 ratio demonstrated an elongation at break four to six times highe...

Oxygen vacancy enriched Na < sub > 1.19 < /sub > V < sub > 8 < /sub > O < sub > 20 < /sub > ·4.42H < sub > 2 < /sub > O nanosheets for fast and stable Zn-ion batteries
Chem Commun (Camb). 2023 Sep 11. doi: 10.1039/d3cc03505k. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHere, a facile hydrothermal method is employed to prepare an oxygen vacancy enriched sodium-ion intercalation Na1.19V8O20·4.42H2O nanosheet cathode with large interlayer spacing, fast reaction kinetics, and stable structure for superior zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs). The assembled ZIB exhibits a high specific capacity and excellent structural stability without capacity decay over 2000 cycles. Moreover, the multiple ion co-intercalation mechanism and partial phase transition mechanism are elucidated based on ex situ characterization techniq...

Sodium-Glucose Cotransporter 2 Inhibitors and Pathological Myocardial Hypertrophy
Curr Drug Targets. 2023 Sep 7. doi: 10.2174/1389450124666230907115831. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors are a new type of oral hypoglycemic drugs that exert a hypoglycemic effect by blocking the reabsorption of glucose in the proximal renal tubules, thus promoting the excretion of glucose from urine. Their hypoglycemic effect is not dependent on insulin. Increasing data shows that SGLT2 inhibitors improve cardiovascular outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes. Previous studies have demonstrated that SGLT2 inhibitors can reduce pathological myocardial hypertrophy with or with...

Short-term Effects of Cadmium Exposure on Blood Pressure and Vascular Function in Wistar Rats
This study aimed to investigate the pressoric and vascular effects of a 7-day exposure to CdCl2 in Wistar rats. The rats were divided in control group (Ct), which received tap water, and the Cd group, which received a 100 mg/L CdCl2 solution via drinking water for 7 days. We analyzed body weight, plasma Cadmium concentration, systolic blood pressure (SBP), and vascular responses. Despite relatively low plasma Cadmium concentration, the Cd group exhibited elevated SBP and increased contractile response to phenylephrine. Endothelium removal and NOS inhibition increased contractions in both groups. In the Cd group's aorta, we...

Enhanced Sodium Ion Batteries' Performance: Optimal Strategies on Electrolytes for Different Carbon-based Anodes
ChemSusChem. 2023 Sep 11:e202300876. doi: 10.1002/cssc.202300876. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCarbon-based materials have emerged as promising anodes for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) due to the advantages of cost-effectiveness and renewability, whereas the unsatisfactory performance has hampered the commercialization of SIBs. During the past decades, tremendous efforts have been put to enhance the electrochemical performance of SIBs from the perspective of improving the compatibility of electrolytes and electrodes. Hence, a systematic summary of the strategies for tuning electrolytes between hard carbon, graphite, and oth...

Sodium Trifluoroacetate mediated Copper-Catalyzed < em > aza < /em > -Michael addition of < em > α,β < /em > -unsaturated olefins with aromatic amines
We present a sodium trifluoroacetate (CF3CO2Na) mediated copper-catalyzed aza-Michael addition of aromatic amines with activated olefins under mild, aqueous reaction conditions. This simplistic protocol employs a copper catalyst (10 mol%) and water as solvent. This transformation occurs precisely with aromatic substituted amines containing both electron-donating (EDG) and electron-withdrawing (EWG) groups. A broad range of substrates were tested under the optimized conditions, which are producing good to moderate yields.PMID:37694227 | PMC:PMC10486139 | DOI:10.1016/j.tetlet.2023.154520
