Billionaire Koch brother donates $10M to Stanford children's hospital to back allergy research
Koch Industries executive David Koch and his wife have donated $10 million to advance allergy research at Stanford. The funding will allow researchers to grow the team at its new campus and run more clinical trials.

There's an allergy epidemic in Africa, and not enough specialists to deal with it
(Elsevier) Allergies are on the rise in Africa, but with too few specialists to treat them, and a parallel increase in immune deficiency diseases, the situation is worse than we thought. According to researchers from Ain Shams University in Egypt in an article in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, the answer is more funding, motivated governments and better scientific partnerships.

Corrigendum
With regard to the article in the December 2018 issue entitled, “Role of human forkhead box P3 in early thymic maturation and peripheral T-cell homeostasis” (J Allergy Clin Immunol 2018;142:1909-21.e9), the authors have notified the Journal that one co-author's funding grant was inadvertently omitted. The funding statement should be amended to read “Suppor t for Laura Passerini was provided from the Italian Ministry of Health GR-2011-02346941.” The authors regret the error.

The correct grant number is AR064781 and the correct disclosure is R.L.G. is a co-founder, scientific advisor, consultant, and has equity in MatriSys Biosciences and is a consultant, receives income, and has equity in Sente.

Although allergist-immunologists have been facing difficulties to obtain funding for research and educational purposes from the public sector in the United States (US), there is a growing research collaboration and network between physicians and healthcare industry in the field of allergy and immunology. Research funding for asthma from the National Institutes of Health slightly decreased from $317 million in 2008 to $313 million in 2019.1 Establishing proper collaborations between physicians and the industry is crucial for improving patient care.
