Leading Practices and Future Directions for Technical Standards in Medical Education
The medical profession first addressed the need for technical standards (TS), defining the nonacademic requirements deemed essential for participation in an educational program, in guidelines published by the Association of American Medical Colleges in 1979. Despite many changes in the practice of medicine and legal, cultural, and technological advances that afford greater opportunities for people with disabilities, the profession’s approach to TS largely has not changed over the ensuing four decades. A thorny path: the developmental course of problem-based learning for health sciences education in Asia
AbstractProblem-based learning (PBL), has been in existence for half a century as of 2019 and still remains the most innovative medical education innovation due to its revolutionary pedagogical approach characterized by student-centered learning (SCL) and self-directed learning (SDL) using simulated real-life scenarios as the learning platform. Here, learning becomes more self-driven, meaningful and relevant, pertaining to the social accountability principle of higher education. Being popular worldwide and driven by a strong demand for medical education reform during the past two decades, PBL has rapidly swept across the m...

Medical Education Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Abstract The coronavirus pandemic has shaken the mankind to its core. Social distancing is the most important preventive strategy for the spread of this contagion, short of a vaccine. Implementation of the same has forced many countries in to a complete lock-down. Closure of schools and universities has made education uncertain at all levels. Medical education is no exception. In this pandemic, the need for uninterrupted generation of future doctors is felt more than ever in our living memory. Continuity of medical education is thus imperative. While "Live" patient contact is an irreplaceable tenet of clinical tea...

Interactive pedagogical tools could be helpful for medical education continuity during COVID-19 outbreak.
This study showed the importance to have direct contact with a teacher and feedback during a lecture and to not exclusively perform distance learning without direct interaction and feedback. Hence, in the present context, we encourage teacher to use this type of tools to maintain direct interaction with students - which is essential in pedagogy - and ensure a qualitative pedagogical continuity. Modernizing Medical Education through Leadership Development.
Authors: Bai H Abstract The Flexner Report of 1910 transformed medical education and ushered in over a century of major medical advances and improvements in the practice of medicine. The requirements set forth by the report grounded modern medicine in the biomedical sciences and equipped physicians with the competencies to become excellent clinicians, researchers, and educators. However, rapid changes in the complexity and scale of the American health care system present today's physicians with a set of unique challenges. The adoption of new health care technologies, major policy changes to curb the cost of health ...

The Accelerating Change in Medical Education Consortium: Key Drivers of Transformative Change
The American Medical Association’s (AMA’s) Accelerating Change in Medical Education (ACE) initiative, launched in 2013 to foster advancements in undergraduate medical education, has led to the development and scaling of innovations influencing the full continuum of medical training. Initial grants of $1 million were awarded to 11 U.S. medical schools, with 21 schools joining the consortium in 2016 at a lower funding level. Almost one-fifth of all U.S. MD- and DO-granting medical schools are represented in the 32-member consortium. In the first 5 years, the consortium medical schools have delivered innovative educationa...
