Adverse reaction to benzathine benzylpenicillin due to soy allergy: a case report
Conclusions We describe a case of a patient with a delayed reaction to soy as a hidden allergen in a benzathine benzylpenicillin prefilled syringe. This case shows that lecithin contaminated by soy proteins and used as an excipient in drugs can cause reactions in patients with soy allergy. For that reason, the source of lecithin should always be specified among the constituents of drugs to avoid a source of hidden allergens and difficulties in the allergy work-up.

Dental students' knowledge regarding the indications for antibiotics in the management of endodontic infections
ConclusionsIt is necessary for the Spanish Schools of Dentistry to improve students' knowledge about antibiotics and their indications in endodontics. Interactive education analysing real endodontic cases using problem‐based learning would help students acquire better skills in prescribing antibiotics in pulp‐periapical pathosis. This article is protected by copyright. Asthma, Family History of Drug Allergy, and Age Predict Amoxicillin Allergy in Children
Conclusions Skin prick test did not contribute to the diagnosis of amoxicillin allergy. The presence of asthma, family history of drug allergy, and older age at reaction can be used as predictive factors for true amoxicillin allergy in children.

Evaluating Penicillin Allergies Without Skin Testing
AbstractPurpose of ReviewAn unconfirmed penicillin allergy is known to confer significant risk to patients. Only a small minority of patients labeled with penicillin allergy will be confirmed to be hypersensitive with the current reference standard test, an oral amoxicillin therapeutic dose challenge. Skin testing has been recommended prior to oral challenges to reduce the risk of severe acute challenge reactions. The rate of severe acute anaphylactic reactions with oral amoxicillin is currently extremely low. Unfortunately, penicillin skin testing, as commonly performed, has a high rate of false positive results.Recent Fi...

Hyperkeratotic flexural erythema responding to amoxicillin-clavulanic acid therapy: Report of four cases.
Abstract Hyperkeratotic eruptions in the flexures, especially in the inguinal region, often pose a diagnostic and therapeutic dilemma. Inguinal keratotic eruptions may be caused by various infections, inflammatory dermatoses, vesico-bullous dermatoses, nutrient deficiencies, medication allergies and other miscellaneous causes such as granular parakeratosis. We hereby report four patients who presented with idiopathic hyperkeratotic erythematous eruptions with a migratory nature involving the inguinal region and occasionally showing the histopathologic features of granular parakeratosis. All four patients showed a...

Short-Term Amoxicillin-Induced Perturbation of the Gut Microbiota Promotes Acute Intestinal Immune Regulation in Brown Norway Rats
The intestinal gut microbiota is essential for maintaining host health. Concerns have been raised about the possible connection between antibiotic use, causing microbiota disturbances, and the increase in allergic and autoimmune diseases observed during the last decades. To elucidate the putative connection between antibiotic use and immune regulation, we have assessed the effects of the antibiotic amoxicillin on immune regulation, protein uptake, and bacterial community structure in a Brown Norway rat model. Daily intra-gastric administration of amoxicillin resulted in an immediate and dramatic shift in fecal microbiota, ...
