Geographical and Seasonal Impact on snoring prevalence - A study based on Internet search frequencies
Conclusions: We could demonstrate that the frequency of Internet searches for snoring has a significant seasonal pattern. This might reflect the direct contact of the bedpartner with this sleep disturbance. Both maximum search frequency and explanatory factors are influenced by the geographical location. Further research in this topic is warranted.

Cultural differences in attention: Eye movement evidence from a comparative visual search task.
Abstract Individual differences in visual attention have been linked to thinking style: analytic thinking (common in individualistic cultures) is thought to promote attention to detail and focus on the most important part of a scene, whereas holistic thinking (common in collectivist cultures) promotes attention to the global structure of a scene and the relationship between its parts. However, this theory is primarily based on relatively simple judgement tasks. We compared groups from Great Britain (an individualist culture) and Saudi Arabia (a collectivist culture) on a more complex comparative visual search task...

Development of an Eastern Mediterranean Region search strategy for biomedical citations indexed in PubMed.
Authors: Tadmouri GO, Mandil A, Rashidian A Abstract PubMed, a 'barrier-free' bibliographic database covering biomedical and health disciplines, has been successfully used to identify a multitude of indicators that assist in analyzing global trends for biomedical research productivity. The current study represents an original attempt to develop and optimize an Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) search strategy in PubMed to pave the way for subsequent descriptive analyses. The refined EMR search strategy contains elaborate syntaxes which facilitate controlling the search process and maintaining a proper balance betw...

Skin cancer-related knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and practices among the population in Gulf Cooperation Council countries: a systematic search and literature review
AbstractSkin cancers are the most common malignancies diagnosed worldwide. In Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, skin cancer remains a significant health burden. Multiple studies have attempted to elucidate patient knowledge and attitudes regarding skin cancer risks and behavioral interventions to reduce risks. A systematic literature search of relevant articles was conducted in PubMed, ScienceDirect, and the Saudi Digital Library databases. A narrative analysis of relevant study results was conducted. A total of 12 studies were reviewed across GCC. These studies revealed common themes among GCC populations. Many st...

School dental screening programmes for oral health
CONCLUSIONS: The evidence is insufficient to draw conclusions about whether there is a role for school dental screening in improving dental attendance. We are uncertain whether traditional screening is better than no screening (very low-certainty evidence). Criteria-based screening may improve dental attendance when compared to no screening (low-certainty evidence). However, when compared to traditional screening, there is no evidence of a difference in dental attendance (very low-certainty evidence). For children requiring treatment, personalised or specific referral letters may improve dental attendance when compared to ...

Fornix-based versus limbal-based conjunctival trabeculectomy flaps for glaucoma
CONCLUSIONS: The main result of this review was that there was uncertainty as to the difference between fornix- and limbal-based trabeculectomy surgeries due to the small number of events and confidence intervals that cross the null. This also applied to postoperative complications, but without any impact on long-term failure rate between the two surgical techniques.PMID:34437715 | PMC:PMC8407098 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD009380.pub3

Treatment of dental and orthodontic complications in thalassaemia
CONCLUSIONS: Although the included study showed greater reduction in gingivitis in the group treated with full-mouth ultrasonic scaling plus photodynamic therapy, the evidence is of very low certainty. The study had unclear risk of bias, a short follow-up period and no data on safety or adverse effects. We cannot make definitive recommendations for clinical practice based on the limited evidence of a single trial. Future studies will very likely affect the conclusions of this review. This review highlights the need for high-quality RCTs that investigate the effectiveness of various treatment modalities for dental and ortho...

The Prognostic and Clinical Value of CD44 in Colorectal Cancer: A Meta-Analysis
Conclusions: This meta-analysis demonstrated that CD44 overexpression might be an unfavorable prognostic factor for CRC patients and could be used to predict poor differentiation, lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis. Introduction Although therapies for colorectal cancer (CRC) has improved in recent years, colorectal cancer is still the third most common cause of cancer related death worldwide (1). Metastasis are observed in 25% of patients at initial diagnosis and approximately 50% of patients will develop metastasis (2). Presently, the outcome prediction and the therapy schedule determination of CRC patie...

Inside the Effort to Promote Abortion Pills For a Post-Roe America
If the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade this summer, as a leaked draft opinion suggests it may, abortion will likely be banned or severely restricted in about half of the United States. But that doesn’t necessarily mean the country will return to a world before 1973, when the landmark Supreme Court case enshrined a constitutional right to abortion. Abortion pills, which can be ordered online and delivered by mail, have already fundamentally changed reproductive rights in America. The regimen of two drugs, mifepristone and misoprostol, can in theory be safely taken anywhere, including in the privacy of people&rsquo...

A Systematic Scoping Review of the State of Pharmacovigilance and Governance in the MENA Region: Challenges and Opportunities
ConclusionMost of the existing systems are still in their infancy, and disparities exist at national and regional levels. The operationalization of effective PV systems requires actions that assure (1) the development and enforcement of comprehensive regulations, (2) adequate and equitable aid for core PV processes, and (3) accountability and participation from all stakeholders.

Global Differences in Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest Reporting
Conclusion Large disparities exist surrounding OHCA patients among three different high-income countries. In addition to this, there are significant gaps in capturing, reporting, sharing and analyzing OHCA data across regional and national borders. Uniformity of reporting standards continue to hinder the epidemiological evidence base for OHCA. Much about OHCA epidemiology is still unknown in many regions of the world, including countries with regional OHCA surveillance in place. These findings present considerable challenges not only nationally, but globally for evaluating the global burden of out-of-hospital cardiac arres...
