Radiation exposure by medical X-ray applications
Conclusion: The risk of bias due to a large number of reference sources must be reduced in studies leading to realistic estimates of collective radiation doses. The risk of CT-induced radiation exposure for children should be investigated by further studies with a follow-up of at least ten years.PMID:35465642 | PMC:PMC9006309 | DOI:10.3205/000308

Considering vocational training as selection criterion for medical students: evidence for predictive validity
AbstractPrior work experience in a relevant medical profession is an important admission criterion currently used at many German medical schools in addition to cognitive criteria. In other countries, work experience is often considered in later admission stages (e.g., interviews with pre-selected subgroups of applicants). However, evidence for its predictive validity for study success in addition to cognitive admission criteria is currently lacking. We therefore assessed whether completed vocational training in a relevant medical profession can predict study performance in the first two years of study in addition to cognit...

Depth and integration of science modules in medical studies at recognized public and private faculties in Germany: A cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: The majority of the current model and reformed medical study courses already fulfill the requirements of the draft bill for the new licensing regulations with regard to the curricular integration of an obligatory scientific project and longitudinal strand on scientific work, which offer hints on design possibilities for further faculties.PMID:36137933 | DOI:10.1016/j.zefq.2022.08.006

Teaching communication skills in medical education
ConclusionAlthough the evaluation results cannot be generalized to the entirety of medical students due to the limited number of voluntary participants, the very positive evaluation shows the need for such projects among students and can also be seen as an indication that radiation oncology as a  patient-centered discipline is particularly well suited to teach medical communication.

Analysis of the German state medical examination regarding psychiatrically relevant topics.
CONCLUSION: In comparison to the actual strain placed on the healthcare system, the results indicate an underrepresentation of psychiatric disorders in the second part of the German state medical examination. The distribution of specific disorders mirrors the actual distribution at least in part; however, certain practically relevant disorders are severely underrepresented. Laboratory Work in Medical Schools
One of the most interesting papers presented at Detroit was Dr. Vaughan ’s earnest plea for more laboratory work in our medical schools, read before the Association of Medical Colleges. The course of study is now lengthened to four years, and the term of nearly all medical schools is now more than six months. There is time for this work. The European medical education is superior to the American only by the facilities which it offers in laboratory instruction. It is for histology, pathology, bacteriology, clinical diagnosis and multiple dissections that our young medical men go to Germany.
