Stroke after MitraClip: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: Although with a low number of pooled events, there was a trend for a lower post-procedure stroke in TMVR when compared with SMVR and a similar one between TMVR and OMT alone.

Predictors of Unfavourable Outcomes in Children and Adolescents Submitted to Surgical Mitral Valvuloplasty Secondary to Chronic Rheumatic Heart Disease
Conclusion: The duration of vasoactive drug use is an independent predictor for unfavourable outcomes in the immed iate and late postoperative period, while residual mitral regurgitation was associated with reoperation, and both tricuspid regurgitation and pulmonary hypertension were associated with unfavourable outcomes.

Transapical beating heart mitral valve repair with the NeoChord system: early outcomes of a single-center experience.
Conclusions: Trans-apical off-pump MV repair with the NeoChord system is a safe, minimally invasive procedure, with few minor complications. In well-selected candidates it provides successful treatment of degenerative MR. Results are anatomy dependent, so preoperative patient selection is crucial.

Temporary oral anticoagulation after MitraClip - a strategy to lower the incidence of post-procedural stroke?
CONCLUSIONS: Temporary oral anticoagulation might be a strategy to reduce the incidence of stroke within the first 30 days after the MitraClip procedure. Bleeding events were not significantly altered due to temporary oral anticoagulation.

Thromboembolic and bleeding risk stratification according to the EHRA valvular heart disease classification in patients with atrial fibrillation
ConclusionThis systematic analysis in real life conditions shows that distinguishing AF patients according to the new EHRA valve classification could be relevant for creating more homogenous groups of patients in terms of TE and bleeding risk. This clearer classification than the previous one should be useful as in clinical research for harmonization of studies, as well as in clinical practice for targeted choices of OAC therapy.

Boston Scientific puts $270m on the table for Claret Medical
Boston Scientific (NYSE:BSX) said today that it agreed to pay as much as $270 million to acquire Claret and its Sentinel device.
Marlborough, Mass.-based Boston Scientific said the deal involves an ip-front cash payment of $220 million and another $50 million pegged to a reimbursement milestone. Claret’s Sentinel device is designed to trap and remove debris dislodged during transcatheter aortic valve replacements to prevent stroke and other neurological damage.
After landing CE Mark approval in the European Union in 2014, Santa Rosa, Calif.-based Claret won de novo clearance from the FDA last year for the Sentinel d...

Extended trans-septal versus left atrial approach in mitral valve surgery: 1017 patients experience
Conclusion
In our opinion, EVTSA to the mitral valve is safe and reproducible. It gives excellent exposure of the mitral valve under all circumstances without any significant increase in cross-clamp or bypass time, postoperative arrhythmia, heart block/pacemaker rate or bleeding.

Minimally Invasive Mitral Valve Repair Through Right Minithoracotomy - 11-Year Single Institute Experience.
CONCLUSIONS: MIMVR can be performed safely with low levels of mortality and morbidity, and provides sufficient repair durability. A learning curve exists in terms of repair durability, especially for anterior mitral leaflet repair.

SQI Test Detects Heart Attack Before It Happens
There isn't a shortage in the number of companies developing tests for cancer detection. However, it’s a far different story when it comes to diagnostics for cardiovascular diseases. Two companies are bringing a huge spotlight to the space and have created a test that can predict a cardiac event.
SQI Diagnostics and Predictive Health Diagnostics (PHD) announced the validation, commercial transition, and development of the PULS Cardiac Test.
"This is a serum blood test for all those people who look healthy and have normal lipids, yet still go on to have a heart attack," Douglas Harrington, CEO of PHD, told MD+DI. "...

Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion for Prevention of Thromboembolic Events
More than 600 000 patients in the United States undergo cardiac operations each year, including coronary artery bypass graft operations, valve repair or replacement procedures, or other more complex operations. Patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) who undergo these procedures are at risk for postoperative th romboembolic complications, with the left atrial appendage being a common site of thrombus formation. Occlusion of the left atrial appendage may reduce the risk of thromboembolic stroke and can be performed intraoperatively at the time of cardiac operations. The most common surgical approaches to ac hieve left atr...

Nonvitamin K Antagonist Oral Anticoagulants Use in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation and Bioprosthetic Heart Valves/Prior Surgical Valve Repair: A Multicenter Clinical Practice Experience
Semin Thromb Hemost DOI: 10.1055/s-0037-1615261This is an observational study to investigate the efficacy and safety of nonvitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients with bioprosthetic valves or prior surgical valve repair in clinical practice. A total of 122 patients (mean age: 74.1 ± 13.2; 54 females) with bioprosthetic heart valve or surgical valve repair and AF treated with NOACs were included in the analysis. The mean CHA2DS2-VASc (Congestive heart failure, Hypertension, Age >75 years, Diabetes mellitus, prior Stroke or transient ischemic attack, Vascular disease) and...
