Improving outcomes in patients with atrial fibrillation: Rationale and design of the Early treatment of Atrial fibrillation for Stroke prevention Trial
Conclusion: EAST will determine whether rhythm control therapy, when applied early after the initial diagnosis of AF, can prevent cardiovascular complications associated with AF.

Atrial fibrillation in patients with ischaemic stroke in the Swedish national patient registers: how much do we miss?
Conclusion Despite the high specificity, AF diagnosis in the Swedish Patient Register assessed in the population of ischaemic stroke patients and age- and gender-matched control subjects has modest sensitivity, which may result in underestimating prevalent and incident AF cases if only register data are used for identification of subjects with AF in epidemiology studies.

New-Onset Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation Diagnosis in Ischemic Stroke Patients
Conclusions: This risk prediction model can be helpful to estimate the risk of an underlying pAF within 3 months after suffering an IS/TIA, contributing to increased AF detection efforts, thereby starting the correct secondary prevention treatment.Eur Neurol 2015;74:211-217

Detection of occult paroxysmal atrial fibrilation by implantable long-term electrocardiographic monitoring in cryptogenic stroke and transient ischemic attack population: a study protocol for prospective matched cohort study
DiscussionIn our study we are focusing on a possible correlation between detection of atrial fibrillation by an implantable ECG recorder, and PITX2 and/or ZFHX3 gene mutations in cryptogenic stroke/TIA patients. A correlation could lead to implementation of this genomic approach to cryptogenic stroke/TIA diagnostics and management. The results will be published in 2018.Trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov: NCT02216370.

Can we improve the early detection of atrial fibrillation in a stroke unit? Detection rate of a monitor with integrated detection software
Conclusion: The monitor with AF-RS demonstrated a higher detection rate for AF than standard ECG monitoring in acute stroke patients in a SU.

Cryptogenic stroke in a young patient with heart disease and kidney failure.
CONCLUSIONS: Fabry's disease must be suspected in young males with heart disease, stroke or peripheral neuropathy, skin lesions, kidney failure and a history of cases in the family. Hormone replacement therapy must be established at an early stage, as it can improve the prognosis. PMID: 28497441 [PubMed - in process]

ECG markers associated with ischemic stroke at young age - A case-control study.
CONCLUSIONS: P-wave abnormalities on ECG were associated with cardioembolic but also with cryptogenic subtype of IS. PMID: 28657357 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Refinement of detecting atrial fibrillation in stroke patients: results from the TRACK ‐AF Study
ConclusionsA combination of SRA and ICM is a promising strategy to detect occult AF. SRA is reliable in predicting incident AF with a high negative predictive value. Thus, SRA may serve as a cost‐effective pre‐selection tool identifying patients at risk for AF who may benefit from further cardiac monitoring by ICM.

Atrial Cardiopathy and Stroke Prevention
AbstractPurpose of ReviewMany patients with ischemic stroke have a stroke syndrome and neuroimaging findings consistent with embolism, but no evidence of atrial fibrillation. Recent data suggest that the pathological atrial substrate, oratrial cardiopathy, that underlies atrial fibrillation, rather than atrial fibrillation itself, may be an important cause of unexplained strokes. This paper will review the literature on the rationale and data behind the concept of atrial cardiopathy, its pathophysiology, suggested biomarkers of atrial cardiopathy, and therapeutic implications.Recent FindingsSeveral lines of evidence sugges...

Prestroke Statins Improve Prognosis of Atrial Fibrillation-Associated Stroke through Increasing Suppressor of Cytokine Signaling-3 Levels
Conclusion: Our data suggested that the prestroke use of statins improved the clinical outcomes in AIS patients with AF by upregulating the level of SOCS-3 and reducing the plasma MMP-9 level.Eur Neurol

Predictive value of left atrial function for latent paroxysmal atrial fibrillation as the cause of embolic stroke of undetermined source
CONCLUSIONS: LA strain was significantly associated with new development of AF. Patients with impaired LA function at admission should be carefully monitored to find AF.PMID:34119401 | DOI:10.1016/j.jjcc.2021.05.005

Electrocardiographic predictors of atrial fibrillation in patients with cryptogenic stroke
ConclusionAn increased p-wave duration, advanced interatrial block and high MVP score are associated with AF occurrence in patients with cryptogenic stroke. Identifying patients with these markers may be helpful as they may benefit from more exhaustive and prolonged monitoring. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved

Predicting atrial fibrillation after ischemic stroke: clinical, genetics and electrocardiogram modelling
Introduction: Detection of atrial fibrillation (AF) is challenging in patients after ischemic stroke due to its paroxysmal nature. We aim to determine the utility of a combined clinical, electrocardiographic and genetic variables model to predict AF in a post-stroke population. Materials and Methods: We performed a cohort study at a single comprehensive stroke centre from 09/11/2009 to 31/10/2017. All patients recruited were diagnosed with acute ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attacks. Electrocardiographic variables including p-wave terminal force (PWTF), corrected QT interval (QTc) and genetic variables including ...
