Outcomes After Kidney Transplantation of Patients Previously Diagnosed With Atrial Fibrillation
Little is known about the prevalence and outcomes of patients with atrial fibrillation/flutter (AF) who receive a kidney transplant. We identified all patients who had >1 year of uninterrupted Medicare A+B coverage before receiving their first kidney transplant (1997–2009). Correlates and outcomes of warfarin initiation in kidney transplant recipients newly diagnosed with atrial fibrillation
In the kidney transplant population with atrial fibrillation (AF), evidence regarding the effectiveness and safety of warfarin treatment is lacking. We used fee-for-service Medicare claims to identify kidney transplant recipients with newly diagnosed AF from the United States Renal Data System. Full sternotomy versus right anterior minithoracotomy for isolated aortic valve replacement in octogenarians: a propensity-matched study
CONCLUSIONS
Minimally invasive AVR through right anterior minithoracotomy can be safely performed in patients aged ≥80 years with acceptable morbidity and mortality rates. It is an expeditious and effective alternative to full sternotomy AVR and might be associated with lower postoperative stroke incidence, earlier extubation and shorter hospital stay.

CONCLUSIONS
MECC and OPCAB both improve perioperative outcomes following coronary bypass surgery when compared with conventional CABG performed with extracorporeal circulation. MECC may represent an attractive compromise between OPCAB and CECC.

Peak Left Atrial Appendage Emptying Velocity Remains Reduced in Atrial Fibrillation during Continuous Flow Left Ventricular Assist Device Support
Although regions of stasis such as the left atrial appendage (LAA) may be potential sites of thrombus formation during atrial fibrillation (AF), its thrombotic contribution during high flow mechanical unloading is unknown. Moreover, registry studies only show a mixed association of AF and stroke during continuous flow left ventricular assist device (CF LVAD) support. Since a lower peak Left Atrial Appendage Emptying Velocity (LAAEV) of less than 40 cm/s during AF, mechanistically contributes to thrombosis and stroke in non-CF LVAD populations, we sought to evaluate the LAAEV in CF LVAD patients with and without AF.

Prognostic significance of right ventricular hypertrophy and systolic function in Anderson –Fabry disease
ConclusionsRVH and RV systolic function show significant association with clinical events in AFD, but only proteinuria and left ventricular mass index emerged as independent predictors of outcome. Our findings suggest that RV involvement does not influence prognosis in AFD and confirm that renal involvement and left ventricular hypertrophy are the main determinant of major cardiac and non ‐cardiac events.

Anticoagulation with a new oral anticoagulant in heart transplant recipients
Rivaroxaban is now accepted for prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in adult patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation with one or more risk factors, and treatment and secondary prevention of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Nothing is known about the use of this new anticoagulant in transplanted patients.
