Applicability of a Novel Wearable Wireless Electrocardiogram Monitoring Device (Spyder) for Arrhythmia Detection in Patients with Suspected Cardiac Arrhythmias
CONCLUSIONS: The new wearable wireless ECG-monitoring device (Spyder) is a feasible and effective method for the detection of cardiac arrhythmias.PMID:34868676 | PMC:PMC8642027 | DOI:10.1155/2021/8496351

Neuronal and cardiac toxicity of pharmacological compounds identified through transcriptomic analysis of human pluripotent stem cell-derived embryoid bodies
In this study, we used human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-derived embryoid bodies (EB) as an in vitro model to investigate the embryotoxic effects of a carefully selected set of pharmacological compounds. Morphology, viability, and differentiation potential were investigated after exposing EBs to folic acid, all-trans-retinoic acid, dexamethasone, and valproic acid for 15 days. The results showed that the compounds differentially repressed cell growth, compromised morphology, and triggered apoptosis in the EBs. Further, transcriptomics was employed to compare subtle temporal changes between treated and untreated c...

Clinical, echocardiographic and cardiac MRI predictors of outcomes in patients with apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
AbstractRecent studies have found that some adverse cardiovascular events could also occur in patients with apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (ApHCM), which is different with previous studies suggesting benign nature of this condition. Therefore, the present study aimed to observe the clinical prognosis of ApHCM and to identify the predictors of poor prognosis in clinical, echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR). A total of 126 ApHCM patients with both echocardiography and CMR were identified retrospectively from January 2008 to December 2018. Adverse clinical events were defined as a composite of cardiac de...

Clinical significance of new ‐onset atrial fibrillation in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
ConclusionsIn our HCM registry in an aged Japanese community, a significant proportion developed AF. The presence of AF, particularly new-onset AF, was associated with increased incidence of HCM-related events. AF may not be just a marker of disease stage but an important trigger of adverse events.

Impact of left ventricular ejection fraction and preoperative hemoglobin level on perioperative adverse cardiovascular events in noncardiac surgery
AbstractThe prediction of a perioperative adverse cardiovascular event (PACE) is an important clinical issue in the medical management of patients undergoing noncardiac surgery. Although several predictors have been reported, simpler and more practical predictors of PACE have been needed. The aim of this study was to investigate the predictors of PACE in noncardiac surgery. We retrospectively analyzed 723 patients who were scheduled for elective noncardiac surgery and underwent preoperative examinations including 12-lead electrocardiography, transthoracic echocardiography, and blood test. PACE was defined as cardiac death,...

E-009 Initial experience of curative transvenous embolization of cerebral arteriovenous malformations using rapid ventricular pacing for flow arrest
ConclusionRVP may be successfully used to obtain flow arrest during neuroendovascular procedures, particularly those that require precise and controllable delivery of embolic material. This is a highly effective technique for curative transvenous embolization of cerebral AVMs in carefully selected patients, particularly those with AVMs that are small, with a single draining vein, and unresectable due to deep location (SM grade III or less). These preliminary results highlight the need for future studies to validate efficacy and optimize patient selection.Disclosures A. White: None. J. Corona: None. R. Joshi: None. B. Welch...

Main determinants of physician-driven amiodarone discontinuation in clinical practice
ConclusionStudy showed that within the first two years of treatment, despite persistent indication, amiodarone was discontinued in 1 out of 10 patients in the absence of side effects, mostly in younger patients with less comorbidities, which may not always be justified. There is a need for qualitative research to elucidate the reasons for such physicians ’ decisions. Incidence and type of arrhythmias recorded by one-month continuous ECG monitoring in stroke patients
CONCLUSIONSAF and other potentially relevant arrhythmias are frequent after stroke and easily detectable with one-month non-invasive continuous ECG monitoring. Patients with a parafibrillatory status could benefit from longer monitoring time to detect AF.

Venoarterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Support for Ventricular Tachycardia Ablation: A Systematic Review
In conclusion, VA-ECMO is used infrequently for hemodynamic support for VT ablation. Further data on patient selection, procedural optimization, and clinical outcomes are needed to evaluate the efficacy of this strategy.
