Ischemic Stroke as the First Manifestation of Hepatic Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma
In conclusion, hypercoaguable state related to hepatic epithelioid hemangioendothelioma can lead to an ischemic stroke, as a rare first manifestation of the disease.

Brainstem Stroke: Anatomy, Clinical and Radiological Findings
Ischemic brainstem strokes constitute 10% of all ischemic brain strokes. Hemorrhagic complications are associated with an especially poor prognosis. Associated symptomatology includes vertigo, cranial nerve symptoms, and crossed or uncrossed corticospinal tract findings. Advanced neuroimaging techniques have become essential in the decision-making process of brainstem stroke management and may provide a means to identify those patients who may benefit from thrombolysis. Because many of the recommendations are based on limited data, additional research on treatment of acute brainstem stroke is needed.

Clinical Presentation, Magnetic Resonance Angiography, Ultrasound Findings, and Stroke Patterns in Patients with Vertebral Artery Dissection
Background/Aims: Vertebral artery dissection (VAD) is an important cause of ischemic stroke. In this observational study, clinical data, magnetic resonance (MR) and ultrasound (US) imaging findings and ischemic patterns were analyzed. Methods: Forty-seven patients with a diagnosis of VAD underwent clinical examination, US, MR of the brain and neck and MR angiography (MRA) of the cervical arteries. Vascular abnormalities and ischemic brain lesions were noted. Data were evaluated separately and compared for spontaneous and traumatic VAD subgroups. Results: The most common overall clinical symptom was vertigo followed by neck p...

Duplex Sonography of Vertebral Arteries for Evaluation of Patients with Acute Vertigo
We evaluated the role of vertebral artery extracranial color-coded duplex sonography (VAECCS) in predicting vertebrobasilar stroke in consecutive patients presenting to the emergency department with vertigo of suspected ischemic origin. The final diagnosis was established by a panel of experts consisting of an emergency physician, a neurologist, and an otoneurologist. Vertebrobasilar stroke was diagnosed when an acute brain ischemic lesion congruent with symptoms was detected by neuroimaging during the index visit or a stroke was diagnosed within a 3-mo period after emergency department presentation.

The evaluation of the sense of hearing in patients with carotid artery stenosis within the extracranial segments
The objective of the study was to assess the effect of carotid and vertebral artery stenosis on the function of the hearing and equilibrium organ on the basis of diagnostic audiological examinations including pure-tone threshold audiometry, impedance audiometry, otoacoustic emission tests and brainstem auditory evoked potential tests. The study was conducted in 63 patients (32 males, 31 females) aged 45 –75 years, presenting with carotid and vertebral artery stenosis and treated at the Vascular Surgery Clinic of the University Clinical Hospital in Wrocław. Patients were stratified into two subgroups according to their a...

Diagnostic accuracy of neuroimaging in emergency department patients with acute vertigo or dizziness: A systematic review and meta-analysis for the Guidelines for Reasonable and Appropriate Care in the Emergency Department
CONCLUSION: Non-contrast CT has very low sensitivity and MRI will miss approximately one in five patients with stroke if imaging is obtained early after symptom onset. Neuroimaging should not be used as the only tool for ruling out stroke and other central causes in patients with acute dizziness or vertigo presenting to the ED.PMID:35876220 | DOI:10.1111/acem.14561

Dizziness in a tertiary neurological department: A cross ‐sectional study
ConclusionThe diagnosis and management of dizziness remain a challenge for clinicians. Vertigo and light-headedness were the most common symptoms among different types of dizziness. Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo and stroke/transient ischemic attack were among the leading causes for common dizziness disorders. The prognosis of most dizzy patients was good.

12 Innovations That Will Change Health Care and Medicine in the 2020s
Pocket-size ultrasound devices that cost 50 times less than the machines in hospitals (and connect to your phone). Virtual reality that speeds healing in rehab. Artificial intelligence that’s better than medical experts at spotting lung tumors. These are just some of the innovations now transforming medicine at a remarkable pace. No one can predict the future, but it can at least be glimpsed in the dozen inventions and concepts below. Like the people behind them, they stand at the vanguard of health care. Neither exhaustive nor exclusive, the list is, rather, representative of the recasting of public health and medic...

Progressive and Fatal Brainstem Stroke in Systemic Giant Cell Arteritis
A 74-year-old woman presented with acute worsening of a 6-month long history of vertigo and postural instability with MRI evidence of cerebellar and brainstem acute infarcts. Extensive neurovascular assessment revealed a severe vascular damage with multiple stenoses and occlusions along the vertebrobasilar axis (Figure 1). Duplex ultrasonography showed hypoechoic halo sign along facial artery, whereas PET-CT highlighted increased fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose uptake along vertebral and other larger arteries, thus allowing a diagnosis of giant cell arteritis (Figure 2).1,2 Despite prompt treatment with high-dose steroids a...

Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura Without Schistocytes: Beware of Misdiagnosis
A 43-year-old woman was admitted for acute unusual headache, vertigo, and left upper limb weakness. She had been complaining of asthenia for the past few weeks. Her medical history included uterine cervix cancer treated with conisation and 2 pregnancies without serious complications. No allergy or recent drug introduction was noted. After ruling out current pregnancy, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was immediately performed and showed recent ischemic strokes in multiple territories. Doppler ultrasound imaging showed no carotid or vertebral arteries lesion. Electrocardiogram showed no ST elevation or atrial fibrillation, ...
