Therapeutic benefits of prophetic medicine remedies in treating hematological diseases (A review article)
Am J Blood Res. 2023 Aug 15;13(4):130-142. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTHematological disorders are common medical ailments constituting an important cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, which may be managed efficiently using different prophetic medicine remedies as adjuvants to current therapeutics. Prophetic medicine includes the body of knowledge about medicine that has been derived from the deeds, customs (sunnah), ahadith (sayings), actions, and agreements of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. This review article aims at exploring the magnitude of therapeutic benefits of prophetic medicine remedies as adjuvant tr...

Macrophage ferroptosis promotes MMP2/9 overexpression induced by hemin in hemorrhagic plaque
Conclusions Our results suggested that hemin-induced macrophage ferroptosis promotes p38 pathway activation and MMP2/9 overexpression, which may play a crucial role in increasing hemorrhagic plaque vulnerability. These findings provide insights into the pathogenesis of hemorrhagic plaques and suggest that targeting macrophage ferroptosis may be a promising strategy for stabilizing vulnerable plaque.PMID:37696298 | DOI:10.1055/a-2173-3602

Transcriptomic Profiling Identifies Ferroptosis-Related Gene Signatures in Ischemic Muscle Satellite Cells Affected by Peripheral Artery Disease
CONCLUSIONS: This is the first report documenting that genes known to be involved in ferroptosis are differentially expressed in human skeletal muscle affected by PAD. Targeting ferroptosis may be a novel therapeutic strategy to reduce PAD myopathy.PMID:37675635 | DOI:10.1161/ATVBAHA.123.319518

Improving the Performance of Poly(caprolactone)-Cellulose Acetate-Tannic Acid Tubular Scaffolds by Mussel-Inspired Coating
In this study, tubular scaffolds consisting of a composite of poly(caprolactone), cellulose acetate, and tannic acid (TA) were electrospun, and then the scaffolds were treated with different Fe(III) solutions (iron(III) chloride hexahydrate (FeCl3'6H2O)) to obtain four tubular scaffolds: F0, F5, F15, and F45. According to scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and field emission-SEM results, TA/Fe(III) complex is coated on the fiber of the scaffold after post-treatment; the fiber surface morphology changes with different Fe(III) concentrations. This provides designability to the performance of tubular scaffolds. The tensile st...

Prevalence and Risk Factors for Bleeding in Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia: A National Inpatient Sample Study
In conclusion, AVM and angiodysplasia are more common, and HMB and PPH less common in HHT than non-HHT. Iron deficiency anemia prevalence is similar in bleeders and non-bleeders, suggesting ongoing blood loss and need for universal iron screening.PMID:37567149 | DOI:10.1182/bloodadvances.2023010743

Ferrozoles: Ferrocenyl derivatives of letrozole with dual effects as potent aromatase inhibitors and cytostatic agents
J Biol Inorg Chem. 2023 Jul 17. doi: 10.1007/s00775-023-02006-0. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn the treatment of hormone-dependent cancers, aromatase inhibitors (AI) are receiving increased attention due to some undesirable effects such as the risk of endometrial cancer and thromboembolism of SERMs (selective estrogen receptor modulators). Letrozole is the most active AI with 99% aromatase inhibition. Unfortunately, this compound also exhibits some adverse effects such as hot flashes and fibromyalgias. Therefore, there is an urgent need to explore new types of AIs that retain the same-or even increased-antitumor ability....
