Association of chronic kidney disease with outcomes in acute stroke
AbstractPrevious studies have found an association between chronic kidney disease and poor outcomes in stroke patients. However, there is a paucity of literature evaluating this association by stroke type. We therefore aimed to explore the association between CKD and stroke outcomes according to type of stroke. Long-Term Mortality Among ICU Patients With Stroke Compared With Other Critically Ill Patients
Conclusions: Stroke patients who need intensive care treatment have a high short-term mortality risk, but this alters favorably with increasing duration of survival time after ICU admission in patients with both ischemic stroke and intracerebral hemorrhage, especially compared with other populations of critically ill patients such as sepsis or severe community-acquired pneumonia patients.

AbstractAntiplatelet agents may increase the risk of infections via suppressing platelet-mediated immune response. Here we assessed the contribution of clopidogrel versus aspirin to the development of pneumonia during an acute ischemic stroke admission. A retrospective cohort study was conducted of acute ischemic stroke patients who were admitted to our hospital from 2015 to 2018. Stroke increases the expression of ACE2, the SARS-CoV-2 binding receptor, in murine lungs
CONCLUSIONS: We demonstrate specific augmented alveolar ACE2 levels and inflammation in murine lungs after experimental stroke. Potential association between bacterial infections and ischemic stroke based on fifty case-control studies: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: In this meta-analysis, a significant relationship was observed between infection by three bacteria such as C. pneumoniae, H. pylori, and M. tuberculosis with the occurrence of ischemic stroke.
