Combined Arterial Hypertension and Ischemic Stroke Exaggerate Anesthesia-Related Hypotension and Cerebral Oxygenation Deficits: A Preclinical Study
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings are the first demonstration that ischemic stroke per se increases the severity of IOH, particularly when combined with a prior history of hypertension; this combination appears to compromise penumbral perfusion.PMID:36730724 | DOI:10.1213/ANE.0000000000006263

Older adults with higher blood pressure variability exhibit cerebrovascular reactivity deficits
CONCLUSIONS: Findings add to prior work linking blood pressure variability and cerebrovascular disease burden and suggest blood pressure variability may also be related to prodromal markers of cerebrovascular dysfunction and disease, with potential therapeutic implications.PMID:36149821 | DOI:10.1093/ajh/hpac108

Expanded Criteria Donors
Exp Clin Transplant. 2022 Aug;20(Suppl 4):13-19. doi: 10.6002/ect.DonorSymp.2022.L13.ABSTRACTThe expanded criteria donor is any donor over the age of 60 years or a donor over the age of 50 years with 2 of the following 3 items: (1) history of high blood pressure, (2) serum creatinine ≥1.5 mg/dL, and (3) death due to stroke. To accept an expanded criteria donor kidney may significantly decrease the amount of time a person waits for transplant but requires written informed consent from the recipient. Although expanded criteria donor kidneys have predictably shorter outcomes than standard criteria donors, the exact risk is ...

Three Dimensional-Arterial Spin Labeling Evaluation of Improved Cerebral Perfusion After Limb Remote Ischemic Preconditioning in a Rat Model of Focal Ischemic Stroke
CONCLUSION: Three dimensional (3D) ASL can be used to evaluate LRP to improve stroke perfusion, and its protective effect may be closely related to LRP-induced vascular regeneration.PMID:35847828 | PMC:PMC9280338 | DOI:10.3389/fnana.2022.893953

Heart surgery and simultaneous carotid endarterectomy - 10-years single-center experience
CONCLUSION: Within the reported patient population of coronary artery heart disease and significant internal carotid stenosis, a one-time approach with CABG or heart-valve surgery and CEA is safe and feasible as justified by clinical and neurological postoperative outcomes.PMID:35841145 | DOI:10.1177/02676591221114953

Is there a role of proinflammatory cytokines on degenerin ‐mediated cerebrovascular function in preeclampsia?
This brief review summarises studies showing the effect of proinflammatory cytokines on vascular degenerin expression and cerebral blood flow autoregulation to the pathological cerebral consequences of preeclampsia. We propose a mechanism by which cytokines may inhibit one autoregulatory mechanism, referred to as myogenic, or pressure induced, vasoconstriction, which is a common mechanism underlying the cerebrovascular disorders of preeclampsia. AbstractPreeclampsia (PE) is associated with adverse cerebrovascular effects during and following parturition including stroke, small vessel disease, and vascular dementia. A poten...
