Duration of dual antiplatelet therapy after implantation of the first-generation and second-generation drug-eluting stents
Conclusion: In our study, for all patients,>12-month DAPT in patients who had received DES was not significantly more effective than 12-month DAPT in reducing the rate of death/MI/stroke. Our findings, that patients who received SES benefit from>12-month DAPT whereas extended use of DAPT was not significantly more effective in those implanted with ZES, implied that the optimal duration of DAPT was different depending on different types of DES.

Renal physiology and kidney stones
Conclusions: The occurrence of a kidney stone is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events including AMI, death due to CHD,PTCA/CABG and stroke. These data suggest that people with a clinically recognized kidney stone should be followed more closely to evaluate for the possibility of subsequent cardiovascular events -- younger people and women.

Rho-Associated Kinase Activity Is a Predictor of Cardiovascular Outcomes Cardiovascular Outcomes
Cardiovascular diseases are associated with chronic activation of Rho-associated kinase. Rho-associated kinase activity is significantly correlated with endothelial function and Framingham risk score. However, there is no information on the prognostic value of Rho-associated kinase activity. We evaluated Rho-associated kinase activity in peripheral leukocytes by Western blot analysis in 633 subjects who underwent health-screening examination at Hiroshima University Hospital. We assessed the associations between Rho-associated kinase activity and first major cardiovascular events (death from cardiovascular causes, myocardia...

Predictors of long ‐term outcomes after bypass grafting versus drug‐eluting stent implantation for left main or multivessel coronary artery disease
Conclusions: Simple clinical variables and SYNTAX score differentially predict long‐term outcomes after CABG versus those after PCI with DES for left main or multivessel CAD. Those predictors might help to guide the choice of revascularization strategy. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Antithrombotic therapy in patients with atrial fibrillation and acute coronary syndrome in the real world: data from the Berlin AFibACS Registry.
CONCLUSIONS: These data suggest that in AFibACS patients, antithrombotic treatment focussed on dual antiplatelet therapy for ACS, rather than on anticoagulation therapy for stroke prevention. Factors influencing therapy at discharge were age, renal failure, stent implantation, AFib category, and CHA₂DS₂-VASc score. During the study period, triple therapy increased for stented patients. Pre-treatment clinical assessment in head and neck cancer: United Kingdom National Multidisciplinary Guidelines.
Authors: Robson A, Sturman J, Williamson P, Conboy P, Penney S, Wood H Abstract This is the official guideline endorsed by the specialty associations involved in the care of head and neck cancer patients in the UK. This paper provides recommendations on the pre-treatment clinical assessment of patients presenting with head and neck cancer. Recommendations • Comorbidity data should be collected as it is important in the analysis of survival, quality of life and functional outcomes after treatment as well as for comparing results of different treatment regimens and different centres. (R) • Patients with hypertens...

Characteristic and prognosis of acute large vessel occlusion in anterior and posterior circulation after endovascular treatment: the ANGEL registry real world experience
AbstractThere were limited studies comparing the anterior (AC) and posterior (PC) circulation acute ischemic strokes (AIS). Our study aimed to evaluate distinct features of AC and PC strokes regarding clinical, vascular risk, pathogenesis and outcome factors after endovascular procedures. This multicenter prospective study registered 873 patients with acute large occlusion of anterior circulation stroke (ACS) and posterior circulation stroke (PCS). Patients who underwent endovascular procedures were included in this study. The differences in ACS and PCS regarding baseline characteristics, post-operative intracranial hemorr...

Efficacy and safety of carotid artery stenting: Experience of a single center.
CONCLUSION: The results of this study revealed that CAS was a safe and practical procedure with an acceptable complication rate. In the appropriate patients, experienced interventionists can achieve good results when aggressive risk modification is applied and an EPD and optimal medical therapy are used. E-023 Predictors of outcomes in tandem anterior circulation occlusions following mechanical thrombectomy
In this study, we present outcomes of patients undergoing tandem mechanical thrombectomy. We demonstrate that stenting is associated with improved final reperfusion, but increased odds of asymptomatic ICH. Additional clinical trials should be performed to optimize the procedure and improve patient outcomes.Disclosures J. Catapano: None. D. Farhadi: None. A. Naik: None. S. Koester: None. E. Can Patient or Arterial Characteristics Guide the Choice between Carotid Angioplasty and Carotid Endarterectomy? The Carotid Revascularization Endarterectomy Versus Stenting Trial (CREST) (P01.225)
CONCLUSIONS: Beyond the previously described differential treatment efficacy by age, there were no other patient or arterial characteristic detected to identify patient subgroups that would differentially benefit from the choice of CAS versus CEA. Our inability to identify factors to guide treatment choices could be due to the low number of stroke and death events, incomplete information regarding arterial characteristics in the CEA population, or the potential exclusion of "high risk" groups (such as those with severe arterial tortuosity) from the study.Disclosure: Dr. Moore has nothing to disclose. Initial experience with a reversal-of-flow cerebral protection device in carotid angioplasty
PURPOSE: To report initial findings with the GORE Flow Reversal System®, with a focus on major/minor adverse events in the 30 first postoperative days. METHODS: The first 24 patients submitted to carotid angioplasty using the GORE system, from June 2010 to May 2012, were retrospectively assessed with regard to indications, anatomic details, technical difficulties, and early clinical outcomes, including major (stroke, death, acute myocardial infarction) and minor (hematoma) adverse events. RESULTS: Systemic hypertension was present in 100% of the patients, diabetes mellitus in 58.3%, and coronary disease in 37.5%. Type II ...
