Is Intracranial Arterial Involvement A Subgroup of Neuro-Behcet Syndrome? (P5.035)
Conclusion:Neurological involvement in BS patients is generally due to venous inflammation. Intracranial arterial involvement in NBS is rare, but it should be kept in mind that it can occur during the course of the disease independent of other stroke risk factors.Disclosure: Dr. Zeydan has nothing to disclose. Micro‐vascular imaging experiences of time‐of‐flight MRA at 7T for cerebrovascular diseases
This study is to examine patients with vascular diseases using ultra‐high field 7T MRI with conventional time‐of‐flight (TOF) sequence, 3D fast low‐angle shot (FLASH) gradient‐echo. We have evaluated several radio‐frequency (RF) coils to find the optimal one for 7T magnetic resonance angiography (MRA), especially for micro‐vascular imaging. We have conducted several comparison studies with vascular disease patients. The results showed that micro‐vessels such as lenticulostriate arteries in the subjects with risk factors like hypertension or stroke patients were significantly less than in the healthy subject...

Presence of anterior temporal artery associates with good outcome in acute atherosclerotic M1-middle cerebral artery occlusion
Conclusion The presence of ATA can be used as a predictor of good outcome in patients with acute atherosclerotic M1-MCA occlusion.

Influence of gender on the risk of death and adverse events in patients with acute myocardial infarction undergoing pharmacoinvasive strategy
Abstract Pharmacoinvasive treatment is an acceptable alternative for patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) in developing countries. The present study evaluated the influence of gender on the risks of death and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in this population. Seven municipal emergency rooms and the Emergency Mobile Healthcare Service in São Paulo treated STEMI patients with tenecteplase. The patients were subsequently transferred to a tertiary teaching hospital for early (<24 h) coronary angiography. A total of 469 patients were evaluated [329 men (70.1 %)]. Compared ...

E-006 Familial Incidence of the Congenital Torcular Dural Arteriovenous Shunt
Purpose There are several hereditary disorders that are well known to be associated with arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) involving the central nervous system including Sturge-Weber, Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber, and Parkes-Weber syndromes as well as hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia and hereditary neurocutaneous angiomatosis. Furthermore, familial incidence of AVMs in the absence of congenital hereditary disorders also has been reported. Herein, we describe the occurrence of the giant torcular herophili (TH) dural arteriovenous fistula (AVF) in two pediatric cousins treated with endovascular embolization. Case report C...

Childhood-onset systemic polyarteritis nodosa and systemic lupus erythematosus: an overlap syndrome?
In conclusion, we described herein a possible overlap syndrome of two autoimmune diseases, where childhood-onset systemic polyarteritis nodosa occurred five years before the childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus diagnosis.

Thrombolytic therapy for pulmonary embolism.
CONCLUSIONS: There is low quality evidence that thrombolytics reduce death following acute pulmonary embolism compared with heparin. Furthermore, thrombolytic therapies included in the review were heterogeneous. Thrombolytic therapy may be helpful in reducing the recurrence of pulmonary emboli but may cause more major and minor haemorrhagic events and stroke. More high quality double blind RCTs assessing safety and cost-effectiveness are required. PMID: 26419832 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Clinical Reasoning: An 87-year-old woman with left-sided numbness
An 87-year-old woman with a history of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and peripheral vascular disease presented with acute left paresthesias. On evaluation, blood pressure was 152/77 mm Hg and heart rate 78 and regular. Physical examination had normal results. On neurologic examination, she had normal mental status, decreased sensation on the left face, and normal strength, tone, and reflexes. Cerebellar examination and gait were normal. There was reduced light touch and pinprick sensation of the left arm and leg, with no extinction. Complete blood count and comprehensive metabolic panel were within normal limits, and ECG s...

Silent Coronary Artery Disease in Symptomatic Candidates for Carotid Revascularization Intervention
Conclusions: About 60% of stroke patients with extracranial CAS have an incident CAD. Hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and the atherosclerotic changes of combined extracranial carotid and intracranial arteries may increase the risk of asymptomatic CAD in symptomatic candidates for carotid revascularization intervention.Eur Neurol 2016;76:69-74

Invasively Measured Aortic Systolic Blood Pressure and Office Systolic Blood Pressure in Cardiovascular Risk Assessment: A Prospective Cohort Study Aortic Blood Pressure and Cardiovascular Risk
In conclusion, invasively measured aortic systolic BP does not add prognostic information about cardiovascular outcomes and all-cause mortality compared with office BP in patients with stable angina pectoris, either with or without diabetes mellitus.

Limb ischemia, an alarm signal to a thromboembolic cascade - renal infarction and nephrectomy followed by surgical suppression of the left atrial appendage.
We present the case of a 55-year-old male with mild hypertension and brief episodes of paroxysmal self-limiting atrial fibrillation (AF) since 2010. Despite a small cardioembolic risk score, CHA2DS2-Vasc=1 (Congestive heart failure, Hypertension, Age=75, Diabetes melitus, prior Stroke), the patient is effectively anticoagulated using acenocumarol. In December 2014, he showed signs of plantar transitory ischemia, for which he did not address the doctor. In early January 2015, he urgently presented at the hospital with left renal pain, caused by a renal infarction, diagnosed by computed tomography (CT) angiography. Left neph...

Impact of Impaired Renal Function in Patients With Severely Calcified Coronary Lesions Treated With Orbital Atherectomy.
CONCLUSION: Despite higher-risk baseline characteristics, patients with CKD had no significant differences in MACCE. Orbital atherectomy represents a reasonable treatment strategy for the treatment of severe CAC in patients with CKD. A prospective randomized trial with long-term follow-up is needed to identify the optimal treatment for these patients. PMID: 28089999 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
