Serotonergic Genes and Suicidal Ideation 2 Weeks and 1 Year After Stroke in Korea.
CONCLUSIONS: Individuals with the 5-HTR2a 1438 A/A genotype were more susceptible to suicidal ideation 2 weeks after stroke. Careful evaluation and management are indicated for those with increased genetic vulnerability, particularly during the acute phase of stroke.

Plasma-based proteomics reveals lipid metabolic and immunoregulatory dysregulation in post-stroke depression.
CONCLUSIONS: Early perturbation of lipid metabolism and immunoregulation may be involved in the pathophysiology of PSD. The combination of increased gelsolin levels accompanied by decreased haptoglobin levels shows promise as a plasma-based diagnostic biomarker panel for detecting increased PSD risk in post-stroke patients.

Factors associated with post-stroke suicidal death
Conclusions The risk of suicidal death is approximately 2 times higher than that in the general population. Depression, diabetes, and large lesions in specific locations should be considered in the implementation of suicide prevention strategies in stroke patients.

Insomnia as an additional clinical correlate of suicidal ideation after stroke
Suicide-related behaviors are frequent among stroke survivors [1]. In a recent systematic review and meta-analysis [2], it has been shown that about one out of eight subjects suffering from stroke may have suicidal ideation afterward (i.e., thinking about, considering or planning suicide). Findings, based on 15 studies including 13 independent samples and 10,400 unique subjects, showed a pooled proportion of suicidal ideation of 11.8% (7.4% to 16.2%). Suicidal ideation was less likely in stroke survivors who were married, employed and had higher education levels.

Sociodemographic, psychiatric and somatic risk factors for suicide: a Swedish national cohort study.
CONCLUSIONS: All psychiatric disorders, COPD, cancer, spine disorders, asthma, stroke, diabetes, ischemic heart disease and specific sociodemographic factors were independent risk factors for suicide during 8 years of follow-up. Effective prevention of suicide requires a multifaceted approach in both psychiatric and primary care settings, targeting mental disorders (especially depression), specific somatic disorders and indicators of social support.

General Medical, Mental Health, and Demographic Risk Factors Associated With Suicide by Firearm Compared With Other Means.
CONCLUSIONS: Medical providers should consider targeting suicide risk screening for patients with any mental disorder, TBI, epilepsy, HIV, psychogenic pain, stroke, and migraine. When suicide risk is detected, counseling on reducing access to lethal means should include both firearms and other means for at-risk groups.

Association of parental death and illness with offspring suicidal ideation: cross-sectional study in a large cohort of university students
ConclusionsStudents who experienced parental death and common parental illnesses were at risk of reporting suicidal ideation, especially if their family were perceived as an important source of support. As information on parental death or illness can be routinely collected during health visits, attention should be paid to students reporting such experiences.
