The Role of Monocyte to High-density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Ratio in Predicting the Severity of Acute Ischemic Stroke and its Association with the NIHSS
CONCLUSION: In our study, the MHR shows an increased value in patients with AIS, and a linear correlation is found with the NIHSS score. Thus, the method is a pocket-friendly, easily available, and simple-to-use novel inflammatory marker that may predict the severity of a disease.PMID:37651244 | DOI:10.59556/japi.71.0321

Swallowing Dysfunction after Acute Stroke: The Incidence, Predictors and Outcome
CONCLUSION: Swallowing dysfunction should be checked in all cases of strokes, including unilateral hemispheric strokes and in fully conscious patients. Swallowing improves with time, but the patient may require feeding assistance in an acute setting. Dysphagia is more common in strokes with higher NIHSS, involving more brain parenchyma and posterior circulation strokes.PMID:37651239 | DOI:10.59556/japi.71.0301

Impact of areal socioeconomic status on prehospital delay of acute ischaemic stroke: retrospective cohort study from a prefecture-wide survey in Japan
Conclusions Living in socioeconomically disadvantaged municipalities was associated with prehospital delays of acute ischaemic stroke in non-capital areas in Kochi prefecture, Japan. Poorer outcomes of those patients may be caused by delayed treatment of intravenous rt-PA and endovascular reperfusion therapy. Further studies are necessary to determine social risk factors in the capital areas. Trial registration number This article is linked to a clinical trial to UMIN000050189, No.: R000057166 and relates to its Result stage.

Association of chocolate consumption with neurological and cardiovascular outcomes in atrial fibrillation: data from two Swiss atrial fibrillation cohort studies (Swiss-AF and BEAT-AF)
CONCLUSION: While chocolate consumption was not associated with MRI findings and major adverse cardiac events in an atrial fibrillation population, No/Low-Ch was associated with a lower cognitive construct score, higher risk of heart failure hospitalisation and increased all-cause mortality compared to Mod-Ch.CLINICALTRIALS: gov Identifier: NCT02105844.PMID:37609948 | DOI:10.57187/smw.2023.40109

Cutaneous microvascular occlusion syndrome as the first manifestation of catastrophic lupus-associated antiphospholipid antibody syndrome: a case report
ConclusionAPS in pediatrics, is associated with a variety of neurologic, dermatologic, and hematologic symptoms. Therefore, it is essential for pediatricians to be aware of the rare appearance of Catastrophic APS as an initial indication of APS.

Extracranial-Intracranial Bypass and Risk of Stroke and Death in Patients With Symptomatic Artery Occlusion
This clinical trial compares the efficacy of extracranial-intracranial bypass surgery plus medical therapy vs medical therapy alone in symptomatic patients with internal carotid artery or middle cerebral artery occlusion and hemodynamic insufficiency on a composite of stroke or death within 30 days or ipsilateral ischemic stroke beyond 30 days through 2 years after randomization.

Effect of teleconsultation on the application of thrombolytic therapy in stroke patients in the emergency department
ConclusionsTeleconsultation was a successful and reliable strategy in assessing patients with ischemic stroke and making decisions for IV-tPA. Moreover, patient assessment via teleconsultation was less time consuming. The results of the study are promising for the use of teleconsultation in the future.

Interventions for the uptake of evidence-based recommendations in acute stroke settings
CONCLUSIONS: We are uncertain whether a multifaceted implementation intervention compared to no intervention improves adherence to evidence-based recommendations in acute stroke settings, because the certainty of evidence is very low.PMID:37565934 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD012520.pub2

Pharmacological interventions for asymptomatic carotid stenosis
CONCLUSIONS: Although there is no high-certainty evidence to support pharmacological intervention, this does not mean that pharmacological treatments are ineffective in preventing ischaemic cerebral events, morbidity, and mortality. High-quality RCTs are needed to better inform the best medical treatment that may reduce the burden of carotid stenosis. In the interim, clinicians will have to use other sources of information.PMID:37565307 | PMC:PMC10401652 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD013573.pub2
