Severe paraneoplastic hypoglycemia secondary to a gastrointestinal stromal tumour masquerading as a stroke.
We report the case of a 70-year-old previously healthy female who presented acutely to the Accident and Emergency department with left-sided vasomotor symptoms including reduced muscle tone, weakness upon walking and slurred speech. Physical examination confirmed hemiparesis with VIIth nerve palsy and profound hepatomegaly. A random glucose was low at 1.7 mmol/l, which upon correction resolved her symptoms. Insights from a thermography-based method suggesting higher carotid inflammation in patients with diabetes mellitus and coronary artery disease.
CONCLUSION: In patients with CAD, DM was an independent predictor of local carotid plaque inflammatory activation. Whether or not the assessment of functional plaque characteristics by MWR can be an additional prognostic tool independent of structural factors now needs to be further investigated. Update on cardiovascular outcomes at 30 years of the diabetes control and complications trial/epidemiology of diabetes interventions and complications study.

Endogenous Testosterone and its relationship to preclinical and clinical measures of cardiovascular disease in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) Study.
Conclusions: Low male plasma T is cross-sectionally associated with key CVD risk factors, but after adjustment there was no association with mean cIMT, incident cardiac events, or mortality. Our results are reassuring that neither high nor low T levels directly predict atherosclerosis, but are a marker for other cardiovascular risk factors. Levels of physical activity are correlated with intima media ratio in subjects without but not with Metabolic Syndrome: A study of Iranians without a history of cardiovascular events
Conclusion physical activity in the current study appeared to be a correlate of infraclinical CVD risk in participants without metabolic syndrome, but not in those without.
