Elevated stress hyperglycemia and the presence of intracranial artery stenosis increase the risk of recurrent stroke
ConclusionsSHR represents a better biomarker to predict the risk of stroke recurrence in patients with ICAS than FPG and HbA1c regardless of previous diabetes mellitus.Trial registrationhttps://www.chictr.org.cn/showproj.aspx?proj=125817; Identifier, [ChiCTR2100046958].

Association between hemoglobin A1c and acute ischemic stroke among patients with type-2 diabetes: a case-control study
ConclusionsOngoing surveillance of HbA1c among PTDs should be conducted alongside knowledge sharing of glycemic control and stroke prevention as an essential measure to prevent developing AIS risk.

Severe paraneoplastic hypoglycemia secondary to a gastrointestinal stromal tumour masquerading as a stroke.
We report the case of a 70-year-old previously healthy female who presented acutely to the Accident and Emergency department with left-sided vasomotor symptoms including reduced muscle tone, weakness upon walking and slurred speech. Physical examination confirmed hemiparesis with VIIth nerve palsy and profound hepatomegaly. A random glucose was low at 1.7 mmol/l, which upon correction resolved her symptoms. In hindsight, the patient recalled having had similar episodes periodically over the past 3 months to which she did not give much attention. While hospitalized, she continued having episodes of symptomatic hypoglycaem...

Clinical significance of skin autofluorescence for diabetic macroangiopathy and comparison with conventional markers of atherosclerosis: a cross-sectional and prospective study
ConclusionAmong diabetic macroangiopathies, SAF is a good stroke biomarker, but not for CAD and PAD.

Update on cardiovascular outcomes at 30 years of the diabetes control and complications trial/epidemiology of diabetes interventions and complications study.
CONCLUSIONS DCCT INT and the attendant 6.5 years of lower HbA1c had long-term salutary effects on the development and progression of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease during the subsequent follow-up during EDIC. PMID: 24356596 [PubMed - in process]

Hyperglycemia Is Associated with Impaired Muscle Quality in Older Men with Diabetes: The Korean Longitudinal Study on Health and Aging.
CONCLUSION: Poor glycemic control in these older patients with diabetes was associated with significant risk of decreased muscle quality and performance status. Glycemic control with an HbA1c of <8.5% might be needed to reduce the risk of adverse skeletal and functional outcomes in this population. PMID: 27126884 [PubMed]

Prognostic Value of Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography in Patients With Diabetes: A Meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS CTA in patients with diabetes allows for safely ruling out future events, and the detection of CAD could allow for the identification of high-risk patients in whom aggressive risk factor modification, medical surveillance, or elective revascularization could potentially improve survival.

Peripheral neuropathy as a complication of diabetic ketoacidosis in a child with newly diagnosed diabetes type 1 - case report.
CONCLUSIONS: Acute neuropathy after ketoacidosis is rare complication and its pathomechanism is not clear. Patients with DKA require careful monitoring of neurological functions even after normalization of glycemic parameters. PMID: 29217500 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Hemichorea in ketotic hyperglycemia with hyperdense striatum mimicking hemorrhagic transformation in a patient using apixaban.
CONCLUSION: Diabetic striatopathy is a rare but treatable disorder and should be considered in patients with poorly controlled diabetes who present with hemichorea. PMID: 33307650 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
