JAK2V617F Is a Risk Factor for TIA/Stroke in Young Patients
The objective of this study was to assess the risk of arterial thrombosis in patients who harbor the JAK2V617F allele burden ≥1% detected during workup for myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs). We conducted a large cross-sectional analysis consisted of 5,220 patients who were tested for JAK2V617F and 1,047,258 people matched in age from health care insurance provider, taking into account age, sex, hypertension, diabetes, atrial fibrillation. Compared with noncarriers, mutation carriers were older, less likely to be current or past smokers and had lower body mass index. There was no significant difference between the group...

Detailed phenotype of < em > RNF213 < /em > p.R4810K variant identified by the Chinese patients with acute ischaemic stroke or transient ischaemic attack
CONCLUSIONS: The RNF213 p.R4810K variant was associated with LAA, anterior circulation stenosis and ECAS in Chinese patients. Given the low carrying rate and only 1-year follow-up information, caution should be taken to interpret our findings in no statistically significant association between the p.R4810K variant and stroke prognosis in Chinese patients.PMID:37137523 | DOI:10.1136/svn-2022-002276

Interarm blood pressure difference and mortality in patients with acute ischemic stroke
Conclusions: The presence of interarm systolic or diastolic blood pressure difference ≥10 mm Hg is a strong independent prognostic marker in acute ischemic stroke.

TIA, stroke and orthostatic hypotension: a disease spectrum related to ageing vasculature?
ConclusionOrthostatic hypotension is prevalent among patients presenting to TIA clinic. Previous history of vascular disease (prior TIA/stroke/PVD) appears to be a significant associate of OH in this patient population.

Early Clinical Signs, Lesion Localization, and Prognostic Factors in Unilateral Symptomatic Internal Carotid Artery Occlusion
Conclusions: In unilateral symptomatic intracranial carotid artery occlusion, poor prognosis and high mortality–associated territorial stroke pattern is frequently observed. Besides, presence of severe stenosis or occlusion and absence of collateral circulation in MCA are associated with poor prognosis.

Middle Cerebral Artery Stenosis in Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke and TIA in Israel BRAIN
CONCLUSIONS: An independent and significant correlation was found between MCA stenosis and vascular risk factors (diabetes mellitus) and vascular diseases, thus emphasizing the similarity of intracranial MCA stenosis and other vascular diseases originating from atherosclerosis. There was no influence of ethnicity on intracranial stenosis in our population.

Abstract 101: Gender Has Differential Effects on Non-Hemorrhagic Stroke Outcomes Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusion: Men with non-hemorrhagic stroke were more likely to have dyslipidemia and history of coronary artery disease. This, however, did not translate into increased mortality in younger men.Gender appears to have a differential effect on non-hemorrhagic stroke outcomes which warrants future investigation.

Long-Term Outcomes of Carotid Artery Stenting in Clinical Practice Peripheral Vascular Disease
Conclusions— Long-term stroke prevention by carotid artery stenting is effective in experienced centers. A high percentage of patients who would have been excluded from controlled clinical trials undergoes carotid artery stenting in daily clinical practice. However, these patients have a substantially higher risk for an acute major adverse cardiac or cerebrovascular event.

The Effect of Non-Stroke Cardiovascular Disease States on Risk for Cognitive Decline and Dementia: A Systematic and Meta-Analytic Review
AbstractCardiovascular disease is associated with increased risk for cognitive decline and dementia, but it is unclear whether this risk varies across disease states or occurs in the absence of symptomatic stroke. To examine the evidence of increased risk for cognitive decline and dementia following non-stroke cardiovascular disease we conducted two independent meta-analyses in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. The first review examined cardiovascular diagnoses (atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure, periphery artery disease and myocardial infarction) while the second review assessed the impact of atherosclerotic ...

Which aortic clamp strategy is better to reduce postoperative stroke and death: Single center report and a meta-analysis
Background: Stroke is severe complication of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) which may be associated with clamp strategy, there are 2 strategies to clamp aorta including single aortic clamp (SAC) and partial aortic clamp (PAC). It is controversial that which clamping strategy is better to reduce the postoperative stroke and death, so this study aims to investigate which is better for reducing postoperative stroke and death within 30 days. Methods: We collected 469 patients who had on-pump CABG in Fuwai Hospital during January 2014 to July 2015. The SAC group consisted of 265 patients while the PAC group include...

Preliminary Experience Using a Covered Stent Graft in Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke and Carotid Tandem Lesion
ConclusionThe preliminary results of our study show that the self-expanding covered stent graft did not achieve satisfactory patency at 90-days among patients with AIS and tandem lesions, suggesting that its use in the carotid circulation may not be recommended in the context of AIS.
