Bioinformatic platforms for clinical stratification of natural history of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases
Eur Heart J Cardiovasc Pharmacother. 2023 Aug 10:pvad059. doi: 10.1093/ehjcvp/pvad059. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlthough bioinformatic methods gained a lot of attention in the latest years, their use in real-world studies for primary and secondary prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (ASCVD) is still lacking. Bioinformatic resources have been applied to thousands of individuals from the Framingham Heart Study as well as health care-associated biobanks such as the UK Biobank, the Million Veteran Program, and the CARDIoGRAMplusC4D Consortium and randomized controlled trials (i.e. ODYSSEY, FOURIER, ASPRE...

Relationship Between Thoracic Aortic Calcification And Coronary Artery Calcium Measured On Chest CT Scans
Introduction: Cerebrovascular accidents (CVA) remain a leading cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. Identifying appropriate risk markers may allow detection of patients at high risk for stroke who would benefit from early initiation of preventative measures. Utilizing atherosclerotic burden of multiple vascular beds may allow for improved cardiovascular risk assessment. Coronary artery calcium (CAC) is a well-established, excellent predictor of coronary heart disease, but its association with stroke is modest.

Spontaneous calcific cerebral embolization revealing a calcified rheumatic mitral stenosis: a case report
ConclusionSpontaneous calcified cerebral emboli secondary to mitral valve leaflet calcifications is an extremely rare condition. Replacement of the valve is the only option to prevent recurrent emboli and outcomes are still to be determined.

Inflammation May Be the Culprit Behind Our Deadliest Diseases
In the early days of my medical residency, I met a man whom we’ll call Jason. He arrived to our emergency room on a holiday, nonchalant yet amiable, and complained of mild chest pain. Jason was tall and trim, with a strong South Boston accent and fingertips still faintly stained from his last home-improvement project. He was only 45 years old, but he looked much younger. He didn’t smoke, barely drank alcohol, and his cholesterol levels had always been normal. No one in his family had a history of heart disease. He asked us if we could work quickly—he wanted to be home for dinner with his daughters. [time-...

Dizziness in a tertiary neurological department: A cross ‐sectional study
ConclusionThe diagnosis and management of dizziness remain a challenge for clinicians. Vertigo and light-headedness were the most common symptoms among different types of dizziness. Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo and stroke/transient ischemic attack were among the leading causes for common dizziness disorders. The prognosis of most dizzy patients was good.

Analysis of Epidemiological Characteristics of New Cardiovascular Diseases in Cancer Patients with Cardiovascular Disease
J Oncol. 2022 Aug 31;2022:5157398. doi: 10.1155/2022/5157398. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTIn cancer patients, a cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a prevalent occurrence. When a patient has both heart disease and cancer, the treatment can be complicated because treatment for one condition can have an adverse effect on the outcome of the other. A cardiovascular disease that involves heart failures, coronary artery disease (CAD), stroke, pericardial diseases, arrhythmias, and valve and vascular dysfunction is a serious worry for long-term cancer patients. Because preclinical research is limited, it is critical to comprehend the pa...

Plasma amyloid- β40 in relation to subclinical atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease: A population-based study
CONCLUSIONS: In this population-based study, higher plasma amyloid-β40 is associated with subclinical atherosclerosis, but not risk of first-ever ASCVD after accounting for traditional cardiovascular risk factors.PMID:35452865 | DOI:10.1016/j.atherosclerosis.2022.03.025

A Study of Srum Homocysteine Level in Ischaemic Stoke
CONCLUSION: The present study revealed that hyperhomocysteinemia appears to be an important risk factor for ischemic stroke. It is therefore important to use serum homocysteine as an important tool to investigate all cases of ischemic stroke and if serum homocysteine is elevated patient should be put on multivitamins containing vitamin B12, folic acid and pyridoxine to reduce serum homocysteine levels.PMID:35443421

Athero-occlusive Disease Appears to be Associated with Slower Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Growth: An Exploratory Analysis of the TEDY Trial
CONCLUSION: In an exploratory analysis of a selective cohort from the TEDY trial, AOD was associated with slower AAA growth. Validation of these findings in other cohorts is needed.PMID:35277322 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2021.12.038
