CONCLUSIONSCardiac surgery in DD-CRF patients is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Interestingly, overall mortality was mainly none cardiac-related, where elderly patients or those presented with CHF had the worst life expectancy. However, subsequent kidney transplantation positively impact long-term survival in such patients.

Etiology and Outcomes of Thrombotic Microangiopathies.
CONCLUSIONS: Secondary thrombotic microangiopathies represent the majority of thrombotic microangiopathies. Multiple thrombotic microangiopathies causes are present in one half of secondary thrombotic microangiopathies. The risks of dialysis, neurologic and cardiac complications, and death vary by the cause of thrombotic microangiopathies. Cerebrovascular Accidents During Mechanical Circulatory Support Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—Stroke is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in patients on LVAD support. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease increases the risk of ischemic stroke, whereas dialysis may increase the risk of hemorrhagic stroke. Although any stroke increases mortality, post-LVAD hemorrhagic stroke was associated with higher mortality compared with ischemic stroke.

ESRD After Heart Failure, Myocardial Infarction, or Stroke in Type  2 Diabetic Patients With CKD
Conclusions Most ESRD cases occurred in individuals without intercurrent CV events who had lower eGFRs than individuals with intercurrent CV events, but similar post-ESRD mortality. Nevertheless, intercurrent CV events, particularly heart failure, are strongly associated with risk for ESRD. These findings underscore the need for kidney-specific therapies in addition to treatment of CV risk factors to lower ESRD incidence in diabetes.

Effects of blood pressure on renal and cardiovascular outcomes in Asian patients with type 2 diabetes and overt nephropathy: a post hoc analysis (ORIENT-blood pressure)
Conclusion In Asian type 2 diabetic patients with chronic kidney disease and heavy proteinuria, reduction of SBP ≤ 130 mmHg was associated with greater renoprotection than cardioprotection. However, our results emphasize the need to individualize BP targets in type 2 diabetes.

Pulsatile-flow mechanical circulatory support (MCS) as a bridge to transplantation or recovery. Single-centre experience with the POLCAS system in 2014.
CONCLUSIONS: The POLCAS heart assist system is an effective method of treatment as a bridge to transplantation or recovery in patients with end-stage heart failure. Mortality following a cardiovascular or renal event in patients with type 2 diabetes in the ALTITUDE trial
Conclusion The majority of deaths occurred in patients who did not experience a non-fatal CV or renal event, although the risk of death was higher following an event. Our findings illustrate continuing opportunities to reduce morbidity and mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Extending the role of peritoneal dialysis: can we win hearts and minds?
