Factors associated with middle-aged adult obstructive lung function deficits in the grass pollen season
Conclusion: Middle-aged adults with allergic disease or TRAP exposure may be more susceptible to obstructive lung function deficits during the grass pollen season. Genetics may also play a role, but further research on this is required.

Prevalence and risk factors of asthma in dairy farmers: Ancillary analysis of AIRBAg
CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of active asthma in dairy farmers was somewhat higher than the rate observed in the general population but may be controlled by reducing exposure to airborne organic contaminants through occupational adaptions on farms.PMID:35998695 | DOI:10.1016/j.envres.2022.114145

Study of atopic multimorbidity in subjects with rhinitis using multiplex allergen component analysis
ConclusionIgE polysensitization, to perennial and seasonal allergens, and levels of total IgE seem to be the main determinants of atopic multimorbidity in subjects with rhinitis. This indicates that disease-modifying treatment that targets IgE sensitization may be of value when decreasing the risk of developing atopic multimorbidity.

Eczema phenotypes and risk of allergic and respiratory conditions in school age children
ConclusionEczema phenotypes were differentially associated with risks of respiratory and allergic conditions in school-aged children. Children with early transient and persistent eczema might benefit from more intense follow-up for early identification and treatment of asthma and allergies.

Racial Disparities in Allergic Outcomes Persist to Age 10 Years in Black and White Children.
CONCLUSION: Racial differences persisted in this cohort through age 10 years. Future studies should include potentially important, but rarely studied factors such as segregation and structural racism as these factors could explain the observed racial differences. Predictors of severe asthma attack re-attendance in Ecuadorian children: a cohort study
This study suggests that a simple risk-assessment tool could potentially be created for emergency rooms in similar settings to identify higher-risk children on whom limited resources might be better focused.

Prevalence and risk factors of fixed airway obstruction in children with asthma
Conclusions: In our cohort, approximately one fifth of children with asthma have FAO phenotype. Longer duration of ICS therapy and poor treatment adherence are risk factors for developing FAO.

Asthma and Allergic Disorders in Uganda: A Population-Based Study Across Urban and Rural Settings
ConclusionsAsthma and allergic rhinitis were twice as prevalent in urban settings. Asthma was associated with greater impairment and worse lung function outcomes. We identified a high prevalence of allergic disorders in Uganda, which can be expected to increase due to urbanization and resultant exposures throughout early development.

Occupational Asthma due to Food Allergy in a Madagascan Cook
Conclusions: As restaurant cook, the patient had had to taste milk containing dishes up to 200 x per working day. Since he hadn't been exposed to cow milk before entering the job we concluded, that the food allergy and asthma had been caused by his occupation. To our knowledge this is the first case for occupational asthma by ingestive allergens in Germany.

In Utero Exposure to Select Phenols and Phthalates and Respiratory Health in Five-Year-Old Boys: A Prospective Study
Conclusion: Ethyl-paraben, bisphenol A, 2,5-dichlorophenol, and DIDP tended to be associated with altered respiratory health, with ethyl-paraben and bisphenol A exhibiting some consistency across respiratory outcomes. The trends between bisphenol A pregnancy level and increased asthma and bronchiolitis/bronchitis rates in childhood were consistent with a previous cohort study. https://doi.org/10.1289/EHP1015 Received: 25 August 2016 Revised: 12 January 2017 Accepted: 26 January 2017 Published: 08 September 2017 Address correspondence to C. Duration and exclusiveness of breastfeeding and school-age lung function and asthma.
CONCLUSION: Shorter duration and nonexclusivity of breastfeeding were associated with a lower FEV1 and FVC but not asthma at school-age. PMID: 28554704 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Upper airway and skin symptoms in allergic and non-allergic asthma: results from the Swedish GA(2)LEN study.
CONCLUSION: Concomitant symptoms from the upper airways and the skin were significantly more common in both allergic and non-allergic asthma. This indicates that non-allergic asthma has a systemic component with similarities to what is found in allergic asthma. There were similarities in the childhood risk factor pattern between the two types of asthma but asthma-related quality of life was lower in the non-allergic asthma group.
