Prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus in U.S. Youth in 2009: The SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth Study.
ConclusionDiabetes mellitus, one of the leading chronic diseases in childhood, affects over 190,000 (1 out of 433) youth less than age 20 years in the US, with racial and ethnic disparities seen in diabetes prevalence, overall and by diabetes type. PMID: 24041677 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Fibroblast growth factor 21 inhibition aggravates cardiac dysfunction in diabetic cardiomyopathy by improving lipid accumulation.
In conclusion, it is suggested that FGF21 may be a potentially useful agent in the treatment of DCM. PMID: 29375676 [PubMed]

lncRNA NONRATT021972 siRNA Decreases Diabetic Neuropathic Pain Mediated by the P2X 3 Receptor in Dorsal Root Ganglia
Abstract Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) participate in physiological and pathophysiological processes. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) accounts for more than 90 % of all cases of diabetes mellitus (DM). Diabetic neuropathic pain (DNP) is a common complication of T2DM. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of lncRNA NONRATT021972 small interference RNA (siRNA) on DNP mediated by the P2X3 receptor in dorsal root ganglia (DRG). These experiments showed that the expression levels of NONRATT021972 in DRG were increased in the T2DM rat model (intraperitoneal injection of STZ with 30 mg/kg). The concentra...

LncRNA NONRATT021972 siRNA rescued decreased heart rate variability in diabetic rats in superior cervical ganglia.
Abstract Diabetic cardiac autonomic neuropathy (DCAN) is a serious and common complication in diabetes mellitus (DM). Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs), an important class of regulatory molecules in diverse biological processes, have attracted considerable interest in DCAN. Our previous study has indicated a lncRNA, NONRATT021972 (NONCODE ID), was enhanced in sympathetic neuronal-like PC12 cells in the setting of high glucose (HG) and high FFAs (HF); its silence was found to significantly alleviate HGHF-induced tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) release in PC12 cells. Here we further explore the effects of NONRATT02197...

Effects of LncRNA BC168687 siRNA on Diabetic Neuropathic Pain Mediated by P2X7 Receptor on SGCs in DRG of Rats.
In conclusion, lncRNA BC168687 may participate in the pathogenesis of DNP mediated by P2X7 receptor, which will provide a novel way for the study of the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus complicated with neuropathic pain and its prevention and treatment. PMID: 29204447 [PubMed - in process]

Translating search strategies (updated)
This is an update of a post from November 2015.If you are doing a systematic review, you will need to run the same search in more than one database.I use the term " translation " for the process of modifying a search so that it works in another database. It is important to run the same search in all databases. So, if you have a search that works in Ovid Medline, what do you need to change to make it work in another database like PsycINFO or Embase?  Those other databases have different features or functionality. There are three areas where translation is necessary, once you have finalised your strategy:Search syntax – ...

Clinical algorithms for the management of intrapartum maternal urine abnormalities
CONCLUSIONS: Four simple, user-friendly and evidence-based clinical algorithms were developed to enhance intrapartum care of commonly encountered maternal urine abnormalities. These algorithms may be used to support healthcare professionals in clinical decision-making when handling normal and potentially complicated labour, especially in low resource countries.TWEETABLE ABSTRACT: Evidence-based clinical algorithms developed to guide intrapartum management of commonly encountered urinary abnormalities.PMID:35415941 | DOI:10.1111/1471-0528.16726

Translating search strategies
Not sure if I borrowed this term, or invented it, but I mean modifying a search strategy for use in another database.   For example, if you have a Medline strategy, what do you need to change to make it work in, say, PsycINFO or Embase?  Other databases might have different features or functionality. There are two areas where translation is necessary, once you have finalised your strategy.  I have assumed in what follows that you have a Medline strategy, and want to translate it for use in other databases. One area is search syntax (proximity operators, truncation, and so on), and the other is subject hea...

A systematic review of cardiovascular risk factors in patients with traumatic spinal cord injury
Conclusions: Patients with SCI are more likely to have cardiovascular risk factors and have cardiovascular disease compared to the normal population. Peripheral circulatory disorders are particularly common. Patients with SCI are now considered to be a new risk group for cardiovascular disease; however, large epidemiological studies are needed to verify in more detail the cardiovascular risk profile of this patient group.PMID:34852665 | DOI:10.1024/0301-1526/a000981
